New Video VI Image Capture and Analysis Library for LabVIEW on the
Macintosh

June 25, 1993 -- Pacifica, CA - Stellar Solutions announced today Video VI,
an add-on virtual instrument (VI) library that acquires, displays, and
analyzes images on the Macintosh in applications created with LabVIEW,
from National Instruments. Stellar Solutions is a member of the National
Instruments Alliance Program.

With Video VI, LabVIEW users can build instrumentation and process control
systems that integrate image visualization and image measurement
capabilities into their application. Typical applications of Video VI
include interpretation of an image combined with reading sensor data (such
as temperature, pressure, and voltage), recording area and length
measurements of regions selected on screen graphically by the operator,
and comparison of intensity (or luminosity) readings in identical regions
in a series of images. Application areas include medical and biological
research, radiology, material science, and engineering.

With Video VI, users can download a video frame from a digitizer board into
LabVIEW in the form of a two-dimensional (2D) array. Users can also import
TIFF files into Video VI from a disk. The image data is displayed in a
floating window where users can point and select regions to analyze. Users
can load various color lookup tables (CLUTs) to visualize the image with
different color gradations. Users can also extract rectangular portions of
an image for analysis and magnification change.

The analysis functions of Video VI include extraction of the coordinates
and intensity of a point, length and intensity profile of a line,
histogram of an image or a rectangular portion of an image, and area of a
polygon. Users can calibrate spatial measurements and express them in real
units. After analysis, any quantitative data is returned to LabVIEW, where
users can further analyze or manipulate it using the Advanced Analysis
Library in LabVIEW.

Price, Availability and for More Information

Video VI is available now from GTFS, Inc. for $200. The package includes
comprehensive examples, sample images, and CLUTs. Video VI is currently
compatible with the QuickCapture DT2255 board from Data Translation and
the LG3 digitizer board from Scion Corporation. Video VI requires LabVIEW
Version 2.2.1 or higher. For more information about Video VI, please
