ARC Available for Most UNIX Systems
DBA Targets Full Compatibility on All UNIX Platforms

October 17, 1993 -- Germantown, MD - Data Bank Associates, Inc. (DBA)
announced that it has now released for distribution and sale the ARC
program for the SCO XENIX/UNIX, SUN OS, SUN Solaris, IBM/AIX (RS6000),
UNIVEL, NCR, AT&T, Interactive, Sequent, and most other Intel based UNIX
systems. Along with the initial release for the HP UNIX, Data General
AViiON, Motorola and other 88K UNIX systems, DBA is now able to offer the
most widely known data compression software to more then 95% of the UNIX
market.

ARC is a software product that creates a library of compressed files. Files
or programs may be added, moved, deleted, updated, printed, or executed
from the library. According to Ed Rosen, President of Data Bank
Associates, "As the provider of the ARC software on UNIX, we have taken
extraordinary efforts to ensure that an ARC library of compressed files
can be moved and used, AS IS, to or from any system using UNIX, AOSNS,
DOS, or OS/2 operating systems". In addition, DBA takes considerable pride
in its product support. In a market where there is little or no
professional support for system utilities, DBA offers ARC with one year of
product updates as part of the original purchase price.

Under UNIX, ARC provides some highly useful options such as a switch to
force the filenames to lowercase upon decompression, an option to convert
line endings to the target platform, and even an option to encrypt files.
When these options are combined with the support, compatibility, speed,
and a reasonable price, the result is an excellent product.

An ARC/UX license provides for an unlimited number of simultaneous users at
a very reasonable price ($395 for major systems, $295 for 386 to Pentium
based, $79 for Shareware Version). Initial licenses include one year of
software updates and hot line support as well as an implementation of
XYZmodem at no additional charge. DBA's ZARC DOS product is included and
provides the ability to use UNIX filenames with ARC libraries. ARC/UX has
been CERTIFIED by the 88open Consortium! Although ARC/UX is protected
through a software keycode, it will run "off the shelf" in a single user
mode until DBA's access code is installed. The ARC program was developed
by DBA under license from System Enhancement Associates of Wayne, New
Jersey. DBA continues to offer ARC for DOS, OS/2 and Data General AOSNS
systems.
