Grolier Announces Signing of Strategic Software Partner (SSP) Agreement
with NEC Technologies, Inc.

Danbury, CT -- October 5, 1993 - Grolier Electronic Publishing, Inc. is
proud to announce the signing of the Strategic Software Partner Agreement
with NEC, Technologies, Inc. of Wood Dale, Illinois. This agreement
represents Grolier's continued commitment to the consumer by providing the
leading edge in multimedia CD-ROM software technology.

Parallel to the NEC example of leadership in CD-ROM hardware technology,
Grolier published the first CD-ROM Encyclopedia in 1986 establishing
itself as an innovator in electronic publishing quality and value. The
1994 edition (Release 6) of the New Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia
carries on that tradition by adding such features as Multimedia Maps and
new Knowledge Explorer Audio-Visual Essays. This is further characterized
by Grolier's recently announced "Best CD-ROM Multimedia Title" (1993
Readers' Choice Awards, Multimedia World). "Together we can leverage this
type of creativity and resourcefulness by seeking new ways to develop the
highest performance multimedia solutions in terms of features, design, and
functionality," says David Arganbright, President of Grolier Electronic
Publishing, Inc. "and the best way to do that, is with a strong alliance
with hardware manufacturers like NEC."

The SSP program will allow Grolier access to ever improving hardware
technology, early in the software development cycle, thereby ensuring that
the consumer will always get the best combination of value and performance
for their investment dollar. "We are certainly looking forward to this
relationship providing everyone with a WIN-WIN-WIN situation," Arganbright
added.
