Introducing iniSCRIPT

October 15, 1993 -- Shrewsbury, New Jersey -- Computer Knacks is now
shipping its new product, iniSCRIPT a NetWare aware Windows ini file
manager. iniSCRIPT enables the LAN administrator to manipulate standard
ASCII ini files, such as Windows win.ini and system.ini, using a powerful
script language. iniSCRIPT supports software distribution and workstation
independence for networked Windows users.

Language Features

The iniSCRIPT Language gives script writers full access to DOS, making it
possible to read environment variables, perform DOS commands, run batch
files and execute programs directly from a script. iniSCRIPT also permits
nesting of conditional tests, allowing for the creation of extremely
powerful and flexible logical constructs--powerful medicine for big
headaches.

NetWare Aware

iniSCRIPT does not require NetWare to function, and is in fact compatible
with all DOS networks. However, when used on a NetWare network, it gains
significant additional features which make it possible to create generic
scripts that tailor themselves at runtime to their environment. For
instance, the ability to test if a user is a member of a NetWare user
group makes it possible to control who is affected by a script using
standard NetWare utilities, such as syscon.

Software Distribution

Because iniSCRIPT can be run from a user's login script, it has access to
both network and local drives. This ability makes it possible to
disseminate software to users from a central location. This design puts
iniSCRIPT in the right place, and with the right features, to
automatically perform such tasks as upgrading applications, or updating
Windows drivers.

Workstation Independence

iniSCRIPT supports workstation independence for networked Windows users
using exclusive tagging technology that separates the user and machine
specific information contained in win.ini and system.ini. Two supplied
scripts, which can be customized to handle unique situations, and a simple
batch file underly this capability. This is a solution-oriented technology
that accomplishes, in a simple way, what Microsoft set out to do with
winlogin. Instead of forcing administrators to describe every possible
hardware, software and user combination ahead of time, iniSCRIPT takes an
incremental approach that breaks the problem down into easy to manage
pieces.

Licensing

iniSCRIPT costs $99.95 per file server on which iniSCRIPT is either
installed, or on which it processes ini files. Site licenses are
negotiated on an individual basis.

Dynamic Company

iniSCRIPT is an integral part of Computer Knacks recent product
introductions in the NetWare and Windows management market. According to
Computer Knacks CEO, Kerry Giftos:

Managing Windows ini files is one of the more difficult aspects of
networking with Windows. Performing application upgrades, in particular,
can be a very time consuming process. iniSCRIPT represents our ongoing
commitment to helping make Windows easier to administer and use on a
network. The NetWare features in iniSCRIPT will dramatically simplify many
ini file management issues.

iniSCRIPT, VERSION 1.0
Price: $99.95 per file server
Compatibility: DOS 3.1 or greater

Requirements: Works with any DOS-compatible network, but features enhanced
functionality with NetWare

Less than 100KB on a file server volume

DESCRIPTION: iniSCRIPT is a Windows ini file management utility that
features NetWare awareness. Nested conditionals, full access to DOS
commands and environment variables, plus NetWare features, such as the
ability to test a user's group membership, permit the creation of powerful
scripts, greatly simplifying administration. iniSCRIPT can be used to
perform software distribution and supports Windows workstation
independence.
