INTUIT NOW SHIPPING DOS VERSION OF BEST-SELLING BOOKKEEPING SOFTWARE

--QuickBooks for DOS drove unprecedented growth
in accounting category in 1992--

MENLO PARK, Calif.--Oct. 18, 1993--Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) today
announced that QuickBooks Version 2.0 for DOS, its new version of the
leading software for small business bookkeeping, is now shipping.
QuickBooks 2.0 for DOS brings exceptional speed to bookkeeping tasks,
speeds data entry, and provides new, extensive business-management tools
such as automatic tracking and billing of reimbursable expenses,
comparative reports for analyzing results across multiple time periods,
and more preset reports.

Intuit introduced QuickBooks in April 1992. The product currently maintains
a 63-percent share of the accounting market. Representing a breakthrough
in ease-of-use, QuickBooks for DOS drove unprecedented growth in the
accounting category in 1992. According to data from the Software
Publishers Association, the accounting category grew by more than 50
percent in 1992 and QuickBooks provided about 80 percent of that growth.

"With QuickBooks we've awakened a sleepy software category," said Intuit
President Scott Cook. "How? QuickBooks was the first software package to
bring complete and powerful bookkeeping to the millions of small
businesses that have no knowledge of accounting. Our research shows that
two-thirds of small businesses do not understand debit/credit accounting.
QuickBooks has satisfied a huge untapped market need. Our new QuickBooks
Version 2.0 for DOS broadens the market further and offers small-business
people dramatic new benefits," Cook said.

Faster, Easier Data Entry

The new version of QuickBooks saves users time and provides significantly
faster, easier data entry. Reimbursable expense tracking lets users
automatically bill customers for expenses incurred on their behalf. With
this innovative feature, users can invoice expenses to customers without
entering information twice, saving data entry time and eliminating
mistakes and forgotten reimbursable expenses. QuickFill eliminates
repetitive data entry by automatically filling in information from users'
business lists (such as customer and vendor lists), and by recalling
previous transactions. With as little as two keystrokes, users can enter
an entire check or complete the top portion of an invoice. Automatic sales
tax calculation easily computes sales tax for taxable items on an
invoice.

More Business Insight

Businesses can make more informed business decisions with new reporting
features in QuickBooks. QuickZoom for reports lets users zero in and see
the information behind the numbers on reports. For example, if users see
an amount on a report they wish to better understand, they can double
click on the amount and "zoom in" to see a detailed list of the
transactions that comprise that amount. Users can then select any
transaction from the list and "zoom in" again to see even more detail for
that transaction (e.g., an original check or invoice).

New comparative reports in QuickBooks let users easily analyze changes from
one period to the next, including this year-to-date period vs. the
corresponding period last year, actual vs. budget, and more.
Profit-and-loss statements now provide the option for a
"percent-of-income" column, to show a more complete view of expenses and
how they compare to income. And with more than 20 preset reports, users
can access information about any part of their business in seconds. For
example, users can instantly produce a cash-flow forecast report, which
automatically projects how much cash they will have on hand week by week.

High Marks

Beta testers gave the new version high marks. "QuickBooks is dramatically
faster, easier and simpler to use," said Robert B. Jones, of Educational
Marketing. "The new reimbursable expense feature keeps our billing simple
and clear. And reports are even easier to get and more useful than
before."

Pricing and Availability

QuickBooks Version 2.0 for DOS will be available Oct. 21 for a suggested
retail price of $159.95. QuickBooks upgraders and Quicken users will be
offered rebates of $45 and $25, respectively. A QuickBooks/QuickPay
payroll software bundle will also be available for the DOS platform for
$199.95 (SRP) each.

Requirements and Compatibility

QuickBooks for DOS requires 640K of RAM, a hard disk with 3.5MB free, and
DOS 3.0 or higher.

Users of Quicken and users of QuickBooks Version 1.0 for DOS can import
their files directly into the new DOS version of QuickBooks during
start-up.
