NSSI ANNOUNCES LANSAFE II 3.0 FOR NOVELL; NETWARE 4.0 SUPPORT
Enhancements Enrich UPS Network Capabilities

SPECIAL TO NETWORLD, October 5, 1953 - Network Security Systems Inc.
(NSSI), a recognized leader in network and standalone power management
solutions, today announced an enhanced version of its network power
management software, LanSafe II 3.0 for Novell. New features include
NetWare 4.0 support, multiple file server support from a single
uninterruptible power supply (UPS), multivendor UPS support, enhanced
security, extended scheduled shutdowns and graphing capabilities.
Available now. LanSafe II for Novell with DOS or Windows workstations is
priced at $ 135 (US).

According to Stephen Nye, vice president of sales and marketing for NSSI,
these enhancements are a direct result of NSSI's continuing quest to
develop real solutions that address real concerns. "When it comes to
product research, we go the extra mile," said Nye. "Instead of telling our
customers what they want, or worse yet, trying to second guess what's on
their wish list, we actively seek out their input early on. Not
surprisingly, we have a lot of satisfied customers. Obviously, its a
strategy that works."

Nye went on to note that NSSI is the only UPS manufacturer to provide
multi-vendor UPS support with an orderly system shutdown. "We feel it's
important to offer our customers a power management solution that will
work in a mix-and-match UPS environment," he continued. "Realistically,
this is the situation facing most network-administrators today, so we've
eliminated a few of their headaches by making sure our LanSafe software
works with whatever type of UPS. device they have in place." Nye went on
to note that the new software also includes an adjustable distortion
sensitivity feature which allows users to customize utility power
thresholds, resulting in a better waveform.

Another example of the flexibility LanSafe II affords users is the ability
to protect individual as well as multiple network devices from a single
UPS. While it makes good sense to protect critical nodes with a dedicated
IPS, there are instances where multiple-node protection may be a more
cost-effective choice. Workstations used primarily for word processing are
a good example. Typically, a power outage in this situation would result
in a minimal loss of data since users generally "save" data on a regular
basis. Regardless, NSSI puts the decision to use dedicated or shared UPSs
on the network in the user's hand

NSSI has also eased both maintenance and security concerns with a single
feature--extended shutdown capabilities. Users can now schedule a
convenient network shutdown over a holiday period, weekend or longer
period of time, preventing unauthorized network access during company
downtime. Additionally, companies with a "green" concern for power
conservation can use this option to save power, a particular concern for
European customers faced with increasing power costs and decreasing
resources.

Network security has also been addressed. As the size and complexity of
networks increases, administrative responsibility for various network
segments is often divided between several individuals, raising the
possibility of unauthorized configuration changes. Consequently, an
additional layer of password protection has been included in the new
release, limiting system access to those individuals possessing a specific
UPS access code.

As an added benefit, managers can now chart and graph voltage log
information using Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3, further easing power
trend analyses.

NSSI's power management system is comprised of a family of intelligent UPSs
and LanSafe II network power management software. The company's
award-winning products support Banyan, DOS, LAN Manager, LAN Server,
Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware and NMS, OS/2, 3COM and UNIX.
