MILAN ANNOUNCES FAMILY OF LOW-COST, INTELLIGENT ETHERNET HUBS

Six New Hubs Provide Choice of Number and Type of Ports

Sunnyvale, CA (October 4, 1993)--MiLAN Technology today broadened its line
of networking solutions by introducing a family of intelligent Ethernet
hubs that feature SNMP management capability at an industry-leading price
as low as $73 per port. The 4400 Series and 4500 Series include six
different models that offer a wide choice of the type of Ethernet media
(10BaseT, 10Base2, or 10BaseFL) and number of ports supported. An
inter-hub communication bus lets an administrator link multiple hubs
together to easily support expanding workgroups. An optional SNMP
management module allows an administrator to manage the new MiLAN hubs via
standard SNMP management systems.

The MiLAN 4400 And 4500 Series

The MiLAN 4400 Series hubs offer either 6 10BaseT, 5 10Base2, or 4 10BaseFL
ports plus one modular uplink port for AUI, 10BaseT, Thinnet, or fiber
connection. The 4500 Series hubs are available in the same three
configuration options, but provide twice the number of 10BaseT, 10Base2,
or 10BaseFL ports. An administrator can connect multiple hubs together to
support large workgroups. For example, up to 16 of the Model 4410H hubs
can be connected to provide a maximum of 112 10BaseT ports.

The 4400 Series hubs are packaged in a small 7.5" x 8" x 1.75" cabinet and
the 4500 Series hubs are enclosed in a standard 19" rackmount package;
both the 4400 and the 4500 Series can be rackmounted with an optional set
of brackets. All the MiLAN hubs contain their own 110-220 VAC power
supplies.

Management Features Make MiLAN Hubs Easy To Use

The MiLAN 4400 and 4500 Series hubs feature easy-to-read LEDs for each port
that indicate termination; receive; global, local, and remote collision;
jabber; and power status. All models offer an optional SNMP management
module that allows an administrator to monitor status and configuration
information remotely using any standard SNMP management system. MiLAN's
SNMP module is compliant with the Internet Advisory Board's RFCs 1155,
1157, 1213 and RFC 1368. In addition, this module supports Mib-II, traps,
and is get and set operational with all the popular SNMP management
stations.

An SNMP module installed in one hub can control multiple hubs when they are
linked together via the inter-hub communication bus, thereby lowering the
effective price per port for SNMP management functionality. The SNMP
module can be purchased with the MiLAN hub, or added on later as desired.

Pricing and Availability

The new MiLAN hubs, including the optional SNMP module, will be available
as of November, 1993. U.S. pricing for the various configurations is as
follows:
