Form and Function releases Page Overtures One; A Library of High Resolution
Background Textures on CD-ROM

Boston, Mass. (Tuesday, August 3, 1993) - Form and Function today released
Page Overtures One, the first in a new series of CD-ROM libraries of
high-resolution, full-page, background textures for color printing,
multimedia, and slide production. The disc contains 100 royalty-free,
professionally photographed images that provide exquisite backdrops for
the users own text and art. The images cover a wide variety of themes
including; Food, Rock, Wood, Metal, Granite, Marble, Fine Paper, Clouds,
Water, Fabric, Fire, Concrete & Stucco, Industrial Grunge, Electronics,
Masonry, and Foliage. Each image comes in 24-bit color and is supplied in
four different resolutions: a High-Resolution version ( 9x12 in. @ 266
DPI) for high resolution printing; a Low-Resolution version (9x12 in. @ 72
dpi) that can be used as a placement graphic for the Hi-Res version in
page layout applications; a Slide version (1850 x 1250 pixels @ 266 dpi)
for slide production, and a Multimedia version (640 x 480 pixels, 13-inch
monitor size) for use as a multimedia, video, or presentation background.
In addition, the product ships with electronic and printed browsers that
show thumbnail representations of the images for quick search and
retrieval.

Careful planning and production went into the creation of the images on the
Page Overtures One CD-ROM. Each image was scanned at 48-bits per pixels
and then was carefully retouched to provide a clean image that is ready
for immediate use. Since each image comes in 9 x 12 at 266 DPI, the images
are perfectly sized for use as an 8x11 page background with 1/2-inch of
bleed on each side. The images are in JPEG compressed (loss-less) PICT
format using Apple's QuickTime compression and are 22 MB files when
decompressed. "When Q.T. 1.6 is installed, the images are seen as regular
PICT files and can be decompressed by any PICT reading application" stated
Jonathan Gibson president of form and function. "With all the research and
development Apple has put into making this compression visually loss-less,
and the fact that decompression is transparent, we saw no better option
than to use the JPEG QuickTime compression. It really is phenomenal.", he
continued.

The Page Overtures line of High resolution textures for printing
compliments Form and Function's Wraptures line of seamless textures for 3D
modeling and multimedia. "We had a lot of requests from customers who
loved Wraptures, but wanted the textures in a higher resolution for
4-color printing projects and slide production. So, we decided to begin a
Hi-Res line with the same type of texture content that is on our Wraptures
CD's" stated Jennie Gale, v.p. of R&D at Form and Function.

Form and Function plans to release several more volumes of the Page
Overtures One library series to fill the professional's need for
high-resolution background textures.
