U.S. ROBOTICS LOWERS WORLDPORT PORTABLE HIGH-SPEED MODEM PRICES; CUTS 14.4
KBPS PCMCIA PRICING TO $399

SKOKIE, Ill. -- October 4, 1993 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. today announced
reduced pricing on its entire high-speed portable modem line, including
its new 14.4 Kbps PCMCIA fax/data modem. The price cuts signify an
aggressive move toward capturing the portable modem market. The new prices
are effective immediately.

U.S. Robotics has reduced pricing in anticipation of a new, cost-reduced
WorldPort architecture, which will ship later this calendar year. This new
architecture, based on the company's proprietary DSP-based technology,
will be incorporated into its PCMCIA and external portable modems.

"There is enormous opportunity in the portable modem market, especially
with the advent and acceptance of PCMCIA technology," said Marshall
Toplansky, U.S. Robotics vice president of marketing. "We see WorldPort
playing a leading role in this market both domestically and
internationally. These price reductions provide our customers the best
portable technology and value available in the more than 30 countries
where WorldPort modems hold approvals."

The WorldPort price reduction continues U.S. Robotics' role as a price
leader. The company reduced prices on its Sportster desktop modems by as
much as 52 percent in mid-March, driving the trend toward lower-priced
fax/data desktop modems designed for the home office/entry-level market.
