Aldus ships PhotoStyler 2.0 for Windows

SEATTLE, October 20, 1993--Aldus Corporation today announced it has begun
shipment in the U.S. and Canada of Aldus PhotoStyler 2.0, a major upgrade
to its Microsoft Windows-based color digital imaging application for
acquiring, editing, retouching, and printing color, grayscale, and
black-and-white images.

PhotoStyler 2.0 is the first desktop application to fully integrate the
KODAK PRECISION Color Management System, which eliminates the guesswork
involved in achieving accurate and consistent color from both input and
output devices, as well as monitors.

"PhotoStyler 2.0 is more accessible to new users, while at the same time
providing more powerful tools for high-end design and production.," said
Rod Bauer, PhotoStyler senior product marketing manager. "This is
especially important under Windows, where many users are new to color, but
have professional requirements. PhotoStyler 2.0 is the first digital
imaging package designed with their requirements in mind."

Professional features

In addition to its color management capabilities, PhotoStyler 2.0 has
several new professional productivity enhancements. A Practice Pad,
Multi-Preview feature, and a Multi-Transform dialog box offer multiple
ways to preview the results of an action before it is executed. A new
Partial Edit feature handles large images more efficiently by loading only
a portion of an image into memory for editing.

PhotoStyler 2.0 supports PageMaker 5.0, Aldus FreeHand, Aldus Persuasion,
QuarkXPress, and others through such file formats as CMYK TIFF, DCS, JPEG,
and PICT. Version 2.0 supports OLE as a server application. The new
version will also support digital cameras, video capture boards, and color
peripheral devices.

Version 2.0 is more tightly integrated with PageMaker 5.0 than any
competing image processing products. For example, PhotoStyler will support
the same color matching libraries (including Dainippon, Focoltone,
Munsell, PANTONE, Toyo, and Trumatch) as PageMaker does, making it easier
to work with standard process colors.

System configuration

The recommended system configuration for Aldus PhotoStyler 2.0 is a 486- or
Pentium processor-based DOS-compatible computer, Microsoft Windows 3.1
running in enhanced mode, 8MB or more of RAM, a 200MB or larger hard
drive, a color monitor, a high-resolution graphics adaptor card (a 24-bit
color display system is recommended for professional-quality image
enhancement), and a mouse.

The minimum system configuration is a 386-based DOS-compatible computer,
6MB of RAM, an 80MB hard drive, a color monitor with compatible VGA card,
and a mouse or other pointing device.

Availability and pricing

PhotoStyler 2.0 is available through Aldus resellers in the United States
and Canada for a suggested retail price of $795 (U.S.). Localized versions
for other markets will be announced later. Aldus also offers PhotoStyler
2.0 Special Edition (SE) with a reduced set of features that will be
bundled with OEM products such as scanners.

Registered users of PhotoStyler 1.1a can upgrade to version 2.0 for $150.
