ASTERIX CHARMS FRENCH STUDENTS WITH CLASSIC GALLIC WIT

November, 1993 -- Gessler Educational Software introduces "Asterix et son
fils: Learn French", published by EuroTalk Ltd., London. A powerful new
CD-Rom program for the Macintosh computer, with over 15 hours of
instruction, "Asterix" won this year's British Interactive Multimedia
Association Education Award.

Over 400 Uderzo full color cartoon drawings host a fast-paced, interactive
journey through this amusing adventure. "Over the years, Asterix has been
a consistent 'hit' with Gessler customers," says Seth C. Levin, Gessler
President. "Having witnessed the timeless appeal of these books, we were
delighted to find our 2,000 year old friend translated into the modem
idiom of CD-Rom." Students of all ages will enjoy the challenging and
flexible program, which combines rich language, authentic narration and
vibrant images. Humor and charm reign, from the irrepressible Gallic
villagers to witty background effects (i.e. Idefix barking, Asterix
slurping and splashing from his morning bath), creating a true
"page-turner".

Beginners will especially appreciate the exemplary sound quality. They can
repeatedly listen to the narration of each "page", pull down full text
translation, or look up specific word definitions. Maintaining an
intermediate learner's enthusiasm is often a great challenge --a challenge
met by the wry wit of this truly engrossing story. More advanced users
will delight in the word plays while taking advantage of grammatical
explanations. Great flexibility and multiple interactive options will
excite individual learners and classroom alike.

Each of two disks offers options including L'INTRODUCTION: the characters
introduce themselves and L'INTERVIEW: asking Asterix and Obelix the same
questions, such as "Qui sont tes meilleurs amis?" ("Who are your best
friends?"). L'HISTOIRE INTERACTIVE provides several options: page
selection anywhere within the story, full English translation and teaching
notes on unusual usage and grammar. With the appropriate hardware, a user
can also select S'ENREGISTRER: record and compare your French to that of
Panoramix the druid, or Asterix himself! L'Histoire Interactive can be
accessed through two modes--ECOUTER listening to the story and viewing the
images without on-screen text, or LIRE: reading the story through the
cartoon images and captions without sound.

The story is told over two CD-Rom disks which can be used individually or
together; each disk is available at $69.95, or at $125.00 for the set.
Each program can be used from English to French, as well as from Spanish,
German, Italian or Portuguese into French. The brief introduction and the
onscreen text translation "bubbles" change for each version. The program
requires a Macintosh with color monitor, and a minimum of 4MB memory.

The ancient warrior Asterix is sure to charm the American classroom for
years to come.
