Weitek Licenses Cinepak From SuperMac
Video Playback Acceleration Soon Available

SUNNYVALE, Calif.,--November 2, 1993--SuperMac Technology, Inc.
(NASDAQ/NMS: SMAC) today announced an agreement with Weitek Corporation
(NASDAQ: WWTK) to license SuperMac's Cinepak advanced video-compression
technology. This marks SuperMac's eighth agreement to license Cinepak
video compression and further establishes Cinepak as the de facto standard
for distribution and playback of video on CD-ROM discs.

"We are pleased to add Weitek Corporation to our growing list of Cinepak
licensees," said Dan Wald, SuperMac's director of business development.
"Cinepak's cross-platform bitstream compatibility has been the key to
Cinepak becoming the video compression method of choice for CD-ROM title
developers. We began by licensing Cinepak to platform developers such as
Apple and Microsoft, then moved into the game market by licensing Cinepak
to 3DO, Atari, and Sega. Now Weitek joins Cirrus Logic to extend Cinepak's
strength into the area of hardware-based playback acceleration."

Weitek's new Video POWER digital video enhancement chip improves the
performance and image quality of Cinepak's video playback for Microsoft
Video for Windows applications. This allows digital video applications to
run full screen at 30 frames per second at resolutions as high as 1280 x
1024.

"Weitek's TV-quality enhancement of SuperMac's emerging cross-industry
Cinepak CODEC will help move digital video playback into the mainstream,"
said Saul Altabet, Weitek's manager of multimedia marketing. "Weitek's
strategy is to enhance and accelerate Video for Windows and other industry
standard multimedia applications--making our hardware a key requirement
for high performance multimedia PCs."

About Cinepak

The leading-edge video-compression technology of SuperMac's Cinepak serves
the Macintosh(g) and PC computer markets as well as the electronic
entertainment market. SuperMac's licensing agreements with Apple Computer,
Microsoft Corporation, Creative Labs, The 3DO Company, Atari Corporation,
Cirrus Logic, and Sega of America, Inc. have established Cinepak as the de
facto standard in video-compression technology and CD-ROM video
distribution.

Cinepak is a video-compression/decompression (CODEC) scheme that enables
each video frame to occupy less storage space than usual, while retaining
highly accurate colors and excellent image quality. In contrast, other
video compressors are often less than satisfactory. Their poor compression
quality and low compression ratios result in low frame rates and
compression artifacts (blockiness and jagged edges) that make the playback
experience suffer. The advanced image-compression techniques of Cinepak
allow full-length movies to fit on a CD-ROM while retaining true color and
realistic quality much closer to the original video source material.

About Other Cinepak Licensees

Microsoft is currently integrating Cinepak into Video for Windows
architecture--the PC market leader's system-software standard for digital
video. This will enable multimedia users and developers in the
fast-growing Windows market to have unsurpassed, full-motion digital-video
playback plus the ability to store as much as a full-length movie on a
CD-ROM.

Apple Computer was the first to incorporate SuperMac's Cinepak
video-compression technology into its industry-leading multimedia
QuickTime architecture to provide high-quality video-compression for Apple
Macintosh computers.

Cirrus Logic will embed the Cinepak decompressor in upcoming graphics
controller chips, bringing low-cost, full-motion video playback to the
enormous installed base of CD-ROM-equipped PCs. Cirrus Logic will
implement Cinepak decompression in silicon, producing a new line of
graphics controllers capable of accelerated video playback for PCs.

Creative Labs, the leading vendor of sound and video multimedia products in
the PC market, is working with SuperMac to develop future digital-video
products based on SuperMac's advanced video-compression technology.

Sega of America plans to enhance its Sega CD video game platform with
Cinepak for Sega--a custom version of SuperMac's advanced
video-compression technology, developed and licensed exclusively for Sega
for use in all current and future Sega game systems.

The 3DO Company licensed SuperMac's proprietary video-compression
technology for use in its CD-ROM-based multimedia system and will provide
the technology needed for incorporating full-motion video into the 3DO
Interactive Multiplayer.

Atari Corporation, the company that created the video game craze, licensed
SuperMac's Cinepak to take advantage of this leading-edge
video-compression technology for realistic, full-motion video playback.
