WEITEK LICENSES MEDIA VISION'S CAPTAIN CRUNCH VIDEO COMPRESSION

Merger of Low Cost Video Compression and Graphics Accelerators will Improve
Usability of PC-Based Video Technology

FREMONT, CALIF. -- NOVEMBER 3,1993 --- Media Vision (MVIS:NASDAQ), a leader
in multimedia for personal computers, announced today that Weitek
Corporation (WWTK:NASDAQ), has licensed Media Vision's Captain Crunch
video compression technology. Weitek's new Video POWER digital video
enhancement chip will be the first semiconductor product to use the
technology. This relationship will enable the development of highly
integrated solutions that bring TV-quality video to personal computer
platforms.

Integration of graphics and video is key to achieving this high quality.
Today, without this integration, video and graphics are run separately on
the PC, and the results are slower and of lower quality than that which
the market believes is important to the growth of video applications.

"The integration of digital video marks a significant step in the evolution
of PC graphics," said Saul Altabet, Weitek's manager of multimedia
marketing. "The licensing of Captain Crunch technology is part of Weitek's
overall strategy to support leading CODECs. Our relationship with Media
Vision is key to our launch of the newly introduced Video POWER, the
digital video enhancement coprocessor to Weitek's POWER 9100 graphics
accelerator."

Believing that the availability of low cost, high quality video compression
is critical before mainstream PC users will adopt video technology at the
desktop, Media Vision introduced Captain Crunch technology in April 1993.
The technology produces television-quality video at a far lower cost than
existing compression schemes.

"Video on a PC is acknowledged as essential to making the PC a truly
interactive tool," said Paul Jain, Media Vision's president and CEO. "We
plan to license our Captain Crunch video compression technology to
industry leaders in anticipation of making video a reality for the
mainstream computer user."

Media Vision's Captain Crunch offers real-time compression and
decompression of captured video. It delivers video in a 320 x 240 window
at 30 frames per second at CD-ROM data rates with 24-bit color. This new
video technology costs approximately one-tenth as much as comparable
technologies such as MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group) and DVI (Digital
Video Interactive). Captain Crunch is scalable. This means that video
developed using Captain Crunch technology allows software-only playback on
a 386 PC or Macintosh IICI or above without degradation of the picture
quality -- users may choose to play smaller pictures or slower frame-rates
based on their own system performance without intrinsic loss of picture
quality.

Weitek's Video POWER enables higher quality video on personal computers
than is possible with software-only solutions. This allows digital video
applications to run full screen at 30 frames per second at resolutions as
high as 1280 x 1024.

Weitek Corporation makes processors and controllers that enhance the
performance of standard operating systems, user interfaces, and
application software. The company's products are used to build faster,
more intuitive desktop computers and peripherals.

Media Vision's mission is to popularize multimedia by offering solutions at
affordable prices. Headquartered in Fremont, Calif., the company is a
leader in multimedia for personal computers, including hardware products
ranging from systems and add-in cards to chips based on emerging
multimedia standards for mainstream personal computers, and software
titles developed specifically to take advantage of the power of multimedia
computers. The company sells its products through computer retail and mass
merchandising channels and to original equipment manufacturers, such as
IBM, Compaq, NEC, Sony, DEC, Philips, Apple Computer, Inc., and many
others. Media Vision recently opened its European subsidiary in Munich,
Germany.
