Multi Tech Announces Mid-Priced Data/Fax Modem

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--November 15, 1993--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a
leading data communications technology company, announced the new
MultiModemZDX (model MT1432ZDX, or "ZDX") desktop modem for business and
home users requiring dial-up data and fax communications in a small
footprint. The ZDX is a full-featured CCITT V.32bis/V.32 (14.4K down to
300 bps) data and V.17/Group 3 (14.4K/9600/4800 bps) fax modem. It is
bundled with MultiExpress data communications software and MultiExpressFax
fax software. The Apple Macintosh model (MT1432ZDX-MAC) comes bundled with
appropriate cabling and data/fax software. The ZDX includes most of the
features of Multi-Tech's full-sized MultiModemII, but is designed for the
fast growing mid-priced professional and home user market. ZDX modems are
available for immediate shipment, priced at $349.00 (U.S.).

"Our new ZDX modem serves the most common datacomm and fax applications for
businesses and home users, while maintaining the high quality expected
from our MultiModem line," states Raghu Sharma, President of Multi-Tech
Systems, Inc. "The ZDX modem can operate over dial-up phone lines at
speeds up to 57.6K bps, transmitting or receiving asynchronous data using
CCITT V.32bis/V.42bis standards, or at 14.4K/9600/4800 bps sending and
receiving faxes using the V.17/Group 3 standards. By bundling both
datacomm and fax software with the ZDX modem, we've created a complete
system where new users don't have to worry about buying separate software.
Even with its small footprint and low power requirements, the ZDX provides
the user with a full array of LEDs for monitoring the modem's operation."

The MT1432ZDX complies with the CCITT's V.32bis standard for 14,400 bps
operation. It also operates at the standard lower speeds of 9600 (V.32),
2400 (V.22bis), 1200 (V.22/Bell 212A), and 300 bps (V.21/Bell 103). It
weighs in at a mere eight ounces and is approximately 4 1/2 inches wide by
5 5/8 inches deep and 1 inch high. The MT1432ZDX provides V.42 error
correction for 100 % error free transmissions, and V.42bis data
compression yielding asynchronous throughputs up to 57.6K bps, which are
four times faster than V.32bis alone (depending on file content). Fax
transmissions at 14.4K/9600/ 4800 bps allow the MT1432ZDX to send or
receive faxes with any V.17, Group 3, or Group 2 fax machine, fax card or
fax/modem in the world. The ZDX also responds to the EIA Class 2 command
set, which is the de facto industry standard for high performance fax
software. It uses industry standard "AT" commands for modem configuration
and dialing.

Multi-Tech Systems, which reported sales of $81 million for 1992, was
