Quick PC/AT Boards Simultaneously Sample Dual A/D Channels

Ideal array processor "front ends"

Many applications need multiple analog input channels sampled at exactly
the same time. Examples include phased sonar arrays, correlation from
multiple receiver channels, and quadrature modem testing. DATEL offers two
new PC/AT analog input boards with dual high-speed A/D converters for
simultaneous sampling. Models PC-414F and PC 414G deskew phase-synchronous
concurrent channels. The Mansfield, MA company also offers both WINDOWS
and MS-DOS "no-programming" software with the boards.

Speedy FIFO, Variable Timing

For highest speeds, the PC 414F simultaneously samples two channels at
rates up to 2MHz each with 12-bit A/D resolution. For low-noise,
high-precision applications, the PC414G simultaneously converts two 1 MHz
channels with 14-bit A/D resolution. With on-board A/D FIFO memory options
up to 16k samples, these designs are optimized for non-stop "streaming" of
millions of samples to host memory or disk. The local FIFO memory prevents
data loss by moving samples in fast block bursts while A/D collection
continues concurrently.

The A/D sample clock may use a programmable on-board timebase or an
external clock. Triggering options include internal or external timebase
plus an on-board analog comparator trigger with trip level set by an
on-board 12-bit D/A converter. The D/A may also be configured as a general
purpose analog output. A programmable sample counter offers automatic
repeating blocks of selectable size.

Data Transfer Options

Data may be sent to either the host PC bus or to a 10MHz non-bus parallel
port which connects directly to many array processors. Interrupts are
supported from several sources as well as DMA or fast I/O block
transfers.

Both boards feature wide full-power input bandwidths (1MHz for the PC-414F
and 500kHz for the PC-414G) for FFT and DSP applications. The heart of
each design is a low-noise, DATEL-fabricated hybrid A/D converter with 5
and 10 Volt input ranges.

Other typical applications include spectrometers, vibration/resonance
studies, engine test cells and medical imaging. The boards may be
installed in any PC/AT compatible computer, PS-30, and EISA computers.
Outline dimensions are 4.5 by 13.3 inches and +5V power (3.5 Amps, max.)
is supplied by the PC/AT bus.

Attractive Pricing

Both board series are offered in three FIFO sizes - 1k, 4k and 16k samples.
The PC-414F1 (1k FIFO) lists at $1,995 (single quantity) and the PC-414G1
is $2,195. Executable versions of the setup and configuration software is
$95 or $395 for the full source code, either in WINDOWS or MS-DOS. A FREE
low level "C" and Assembly language library disk is available on request
or downloadable from DATEL's bulletin board.

The products include comprehensive user's manuals with software examples.
All models are available from stock to 4 weeks and DATEL offers generous
quantity discounts.
