CHEYENNE SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES DISTRIBUTED STORAGE MANAGEMENT PRODUCT
STRATEGY

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK, October 27, 1993 - - - Cheyenne Software, Inc.
(AMEX:CYE) announced today its distributed storage management (DSM)
product strategy. Cheyenne is the first software developer to respond to
the growing need for efficient and effective storage management on local
area networks (LANs) with an all encompassing strategy which includes
software products that address hierarchical storage management (HSM),
NetWare volume support for optical jukeboxes, and application specific
high capacity storage.

Cheyenne has earned a reputation for delivering quality LAN based tape
backup software products and is pro-actively extending that technology to
address the increasing complexities of LAN based storage. Leveraging the
expertise gained from its development of ARCserve, combined with the
optical disk and jukebox management software technology obtained as a
result of its acquisition of Applied Programming Technology, Inc.'s
(APTs), Cheyenne is well positioned to quickly respond to this emerging
user requirement.

In making the announcement, Jeff Finkle, Director of Business Development,
stated, "Research and customer feedback have indicated a 400% growth in
storage requirements per LAN. New data types which are now being stored on
local area networks, such as document and graphic images, audio, and
video, are significant contributors to this rapid growth. Much of this
data is rarely accessed, yet still needs to be on-line or near-line."

Cheyenne's overall HSM strategy will address this growing concern by
delivering software solutions that provide the transparent, automatic
migration or demigration of inactive files among primary storage (hard
disk), secondary storage (optical disk) and/or tertiary storage (WORM
optical or tape). This process reduces storage costs by placing these
inactive files on more suitable, less expensive devices.

Cheyenne is currently in development of DSM software products that operate
within the OS/2 and Novell NetWare environments, and based on present
engineering schedules, anticipates delivery of these products to be in the
first quarter of 1994.

Cheyenne Software, Inc., founded in 1983, is a leading developer of
automated software solutions for NetWare, UNIX and DOS. Cheyenne currently
markets an array of security, backup and management products, including
Monitrix, FAXserve, InocuLAN, and the ARCserve family of software. The
company's products are sold on a worldwide basis through strategic
partnerships and an extensive distribution network.
