DSPLib FROM SPECTRUM SIGNAL PROVIDES HAND-OPTIMIZED C-CALLABLE ROUTINES FOR
MOST COMMON DSP FUNCTIONS

Burnaby, B.C., November 5, 1993 - Spectrum Signal Processing, the leading
worldwide supplier of DSP hardware and software products, today released
DSPLib, a library of signal processing routines for the Texas Instruments
TMS320C3x/C40 series of Digital Signal Processors.

DSPLib allows engineers to attain close to theoretical peak performance
from the TMS320C3x/C40 series while coding only in C. It provides high
performance hand-optimized C-callable assembler routines for performance
critical functions, relieving designers of the task of optimizing
important sections of their code. DSPLib has been designed by Ensigma, a
DSP research and development specialist based in the United Kingdom, which
provides hardware and software products to users worldwide.

DSPLib can implement a 100-coefficient finite impulse response (FIR)
filter in just 548usec on a 40 MHz C40: just one-sixth of the execution
time of a compiled C routine. FFTs, IIR (infinite impulse response)
filters, convolution, correlation and windowing functions are all
supplied, as are many other useful routines such as Gaussian white noise
generation and matrix multiplication.

Supplied with a comprehensive user guide, DSPLib is provided as both source
and executable code allowing those comfortable with assembler to customize
their routines. After initial development, DSPLib routines can be used
freely in applications code: no runtime license is necessary. The routines
are all re-entrant. There are no static local variables, so that DSPLib
functions can be used in multitasking systems and interrupt routines.

Also provided are high-level utilities, which allow DSP code to be
developed in C on a PC or workstation, and downloaded to any of SPECTRUM's
comprehensive range of compatible hardware for PC bus, VMEbus or SBus.
Code can then be run on the DSP, with results displayed in real-time on
the screen.

DSPLib is available now from SPECTRUM at US $750 each in single quantities.
Significant discounts are available for large volume purchases.

Spectrum Signal Processing is the leading developer of system and processor
boards, software tools, hardware systems and other digital signal
processing products for the PC, VME and SBus environments. These systems
support digital signal processors from all major DSP vendors. SPECTRUM's
unique modular DSP hardware allows users to interface off-the-shelf
peripheral I/O boards with the processor of their choice. Spectrum Signal
Processing Inc. is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol SSPIF, and
on the Vancouver and Toronto Stock Exchanges under the symbol SSY.
