JVC ANNOUNCES INTENT TO SUPPORT AUTHORING OF PHOTO CD PORTFOLIO DISCS

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15--JVC Information Products Company of America intends to
support the authoring of Photo CD Portfolio discs on its Personal RomMaker
CD-Recordable (CD-R) production systems, officials of JVC and Eastman
Kodak Company announced today.

Kodak designed the Photo CD Portfolio format for creating CDs that combine
still images with text, graphics, and sound. A programmed access or
"branching" capability built into the format lets users create interactive
discs. Like all Photo CD formats, Photo CD Portfolio discs can be played
back on TV or computers.

JVC said it plans to bundle Kodak software for producing Photo CD Portfolio
discs with its UNIX-based RomMaker products, and to brand JVC's CD-R
systems with the distinctive Photo CD trademark. Personal RomMaker systems
are complete hardware and software solutions for in-house production of
CDROM discs.

Kodak Photo CD Portfolio authoring software will be introduced by early
next year. Kodak and JVC are demonstrating beta versions of Photo CD
Portfolio authoring software here at COMDEX in Kodak's booth (A-117) and
JVC's booth (A-268). Both booths are part of the Multimedia Showcase in
the South Annex of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

JVC Personal RomMaker Systems

JVC announced plans to support authoring and playback of Photo CD Portfolio
discs on two system configurations:

* JVC's Personal RomMaker for UNIX, a standalone system that lets Sun
SPARCstation users create individual CD-ROM discs at the desktop.

* JVC's Personal RomMaker Multi-Drive System for UNIX, which adds up to
four additional CD-R drives for users who want to produce multiple copies
of discs quickly.

Both products incorporate JVC hardware and Personal RomMaker software,
which together write CD-ROM discs in the ISO 9660/Rock Ridge,
ISO-9660/HiSierra, or UNIX native file system (UFS) formats.

The Kodak Photo CD Portfolio authoring software would provide JVC customers
with another disc-writing option: the ability to produce their own Photo
CD Portfolio format discs. JVC said it plans to incorporate the Photo CD
Portfolio software as a standard model in its UNIX-based RomMaker line up,
and to provide users sample Kodak Photo CD Portfolio formatted media with
each purchase.

"The Photo CD format is gaining acceptance as an industry standard for high
quality still images, and JVC expects Photo CD Portfolio format discs to
become a popular medium for CD-ROM publishing," said Richard Young, vice
president of JVC Information Products Company of America. "We plan to move
as quickly as possible to provide our customers the ability to author
Photo CD Portfolio format discs using JVC's RomMaker products."

KODAK Photo CD Portfolio Disc

The Kodak Photo CD system scans photographic images onto special compact
discs for input to a computer or playback on television. The Photo CD
Portfolio format is an extension of the core Photo CD format designed to
serve as a CDROM publishing medium.

The Photo CD Portfolio format will combine Photo CD images or other digital
image file formats with digital audio, graphics, text screens, and
programmed access (sometimes referred to as "branching," which lets the
presenter or viewer select different playback options).

Photo CD Portfolio discs can be played back on television using a Photo CD
Portfolio, CD-I, or 3DO player, or other compatible playback device. The
discs can be played on any computer using a Photo CD Portfolio-compatible
CD-ROM drive with appropriate software. All major CD-ROM drive
manufacturers currently offer multisession drives that are Photo
CD-compatible.

"Kodak's strategy is to enable the broadest possible base of computer users
to read and write Photo CD discs," said Fred Geyer, general manager and
vicepresident, Kodak CD Imaging. "We are extremely pleased that JVC, one
of the leaders in CD-Recordable hardware and software, has expressed its
intent to let customers create Photo CD Portfolio format discs."
