SYBASE ANNOUNCES NEW GAIN MOMENTUM DEVELOPERS PROGRAM

Gain Momentum Development Options Expand to Include Consultants and
Independent Software Vendors

EMERYVILLE, CA, November 22,1993 -- Sybase, Inc., the Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced the Gain Momentum Developers
Program, which has two main objectives. The first is to raise awareness of
the Gain Momemtum product among professional service providers. The second
seeks to encourage independent software vendors (ISVs) to use Gain
Momentum as a development platform for building add-on tools for the Gain
Momentum environment. Through the new program, participating companies
will receive Gain Momentum software and training, as well as technical,
sales and marketing support.

Gain Momentum is Sybase's object-oriented, application development
environment that combines the rich content of multimedia with the
flexibility of client/server computing. Its multimedia capabilities and
flexible architecture provide an ideal environment for developing
applications that model the look and feel of a company's business.

"We have been successful in developing a powerful, multimedia application
development tool through our internal development team," commented Stewart
Schuster, vice president of marketing at Sybase. "The Gain Momentum
Developers Program will allow us to work with key partners on further
increasing visibility for the Gain Momentum environment and to
significantly complement our development tools offerings."

Sybase's introduction of the Gain Momentum Developers Program represents a
logical next step in Sybase's efforts to integrate Gain Momentum into the
company's overall third-party programs, following the merger of Gain
Technology with Sybase, Inc., in July 1992. Sybase has modeled the Gain
Momentum Developers Program after its Open Solutions Program. The Open
Solutions Program is designed to help Sybase and its partners work
together to bring client/server solutions to the market.

Benefits for Third Parties

Through the Gain Momentum Developers Program, ISVs and Professional Service
Providers will obtain access to a powerful, easy-to-use application
development environment that will increase their success in providing
technologically advanced software solutions for today's enterprise.

By developing expertise on Gain Momentum, professional service providers
can help their clients implement powerful client/server solutions that
combine advanced multimedia features with easy access to SQL and legacy
data.

"Participating in the Gain Momentum Developers Program gives us a
competitive edge when consulting with our customers on application
development tools," said Gene Johnson, director of systems analysis at
General Research Corporation (GRC). "As a Sybase partner, we can work more
closely with the Sybase development team on learning about the product and
influencing its development to best fit the needs of our clients."

Sybase expects that ISVs will use the product to develop their own add-on
tools for Gain Momentum. They will particularly benefit from the product's
object-oriented architecture, its extensibility and rapid prototyping
capabilities.

"We have joined the Gain Momentum Developers Program to complement our
business strategy," said Alison Boardman, vice president of consulting
services at Tech-Ease, a training services provider. "The partnership with
Sybase will allow us to aggressively penetrate the mission-critical
client/server market. In addition, we found that Gain Momentum is an ideal
tool for developing powerful training packages that run on networked,
UNIX-based systems."

Program Details

Sybase designed the new program to attract partners who understand today's
business environments and are experts in client/server and multimedia
application development. The program offers the following areas benefits:

* Product: Gain Momentum software and documentation.

* Training and Technical Services: Technical support through an 800 number
for the U.S. and local contacts in international regions, training classes
on topics such as designing sensory rich interfaces and implementing
client/server database applications.

* Sales and Marketing Support: Joint marketing and sales activities through
a number of vehicles: listing in the Sybase Open Solutions Directory and
On-Line Referral, booth space at Sybase's annual user conference,
participation in marketing and public relations events.

Gain Momentum Background

Gain Momentum is part of Sybase's Momentum family of tools, designed to
offer a wide range of products for back office, front office, and extended
office applications for client/server environments. The Gain Momentum
environment is designed to facilitate a new class of easy-to-use, yet
powerful business applications for an area of computing that Sybase has
defined as the "extended office". In the extended office computer use is
characterized by the requirement for an information-rich interface to
extend the reach of applications to "elective" users. Sybase defines these
elective users as business partners, such as customers or vendors, who
need to be enticed to use an application, as opposed to company employees
whose job it is to learn the use of their companies' applications.

Major corporations and government agencies use Gain Momentum in
applications such as decision support systems, computer-based training
(CBT), command and control systems, electronic performance support systems
(EPSS), information kiosks, and interactive product catalogs. The goal of
developing and implementing this new class of interactive, multimedia
applications is to increase productivity among end users and to extend the
reach to new audiences.
