MICRO EXPRESS INTRODUCES COLOR NOTEBOOK PC WITH PCMCIA

Santa Ana, CA, October, 1993...Micro Express introduces its first active
matrix color notebook PC. Called the NB8266, this PC is based on the
powerful 486DX2-66 microprocessor. The display is a 10-inch color VGA
active-matrix TFT LCD type, with CCFT backlighting and a resolution of 640
x 480 pixels. This notebook PC also offers such features as a PCMCIA
expansion slot, built-in trackball mouse, intelligent power management to
maximize battery life, a 200-MB fast hard disk and flash BIOS.

Including 4-MB of RAM (expandable to 20 MB), a 200-MB hard disk, color LCD
display, 31/2" floppy disk drive, a built-in trackball mouse, free
carrying case and quick-charge NiCd battery, the NB8266 costs $4499.

The video driver can simultaneously drive both the LCD display and an
external SVGA CRT with resolutions of up to 640 x 480 pixels, or the
external display alone up to a resolution of 1024 x 768. The
fully-featured Award BIOS is stored in 128K of Flash ROM, has password
protection and selectable shadowing of both the system and video BIOS. A
CMOS clock calendar is included as are built-in diagnostics. Standard
ports are one parallel and one serial and one PCMCIA Type III. In
addition, there is a port for the external CRT monitor, an external
keyboard/keypad port, and a port for a docking station.

The versatile optional docking station ($495) can be used to expand the
NB8266 into a full multimedia PC. It includes: 2 internal speakers; 1
CD-ROM or 5-1/4" HDD bay; a built-in SCSI controller with 25-pin external
SCSI port; one 3-1/2" drive bay; two 32-bit VESA local bus expansion
slots; two 16-bit ISA expansion slots; one parallel and two serial ports;
one external keyboard port; one 15-pin external video port; and a
full-range auto-switching 150-W ac adapter.

The case measures 11.0"[W] x 2.0"[H] x 8.6"[D], and the system weighs 7.2
pounds, including the battery. A universal auto-switching ac adapter is
included as well.

For battery conservation, a full sleep-mode, power-down management system
is included. Estimated battery life is 2.5 hours. Recharging takes only 2
hours, even with the machine on.

The keyboard has 86 full-size keys, including an inverted "T"
cursor-control pad. A carrying case is included at no extra charge.

The credit-card sized Type III PCMCIA slot gives you the option of using
the latest PCMCIA cards, including the optional 2400/9600 bps ($199) and
14.4/14.4 kbps ($499) send/receive FAX/modems, thus expanding the
computer's means of interfacing, data transmission, telecommunications and
networking.
