NEC TECHNOLOGIES, INC. INTRODUCES THE NEXT GENERATION OF ITS IMAGE SERIES
OF FAST GRAPHICS PCs FOR ADVANCED USERS

New Image 486es PCs Represent the Best Performing 486-based Systems For
Running Today's Powerful 32-bit Operating Systems

Boxborough. Mass.. November 2, 1993--Further strengthening its leadership
position as developer of the industry's fastest performing graphics PCs,
NEC Technologies, Inc., the inventor of local bus video technology, today
introduced the Image 486es Series of desktop/deskside personal
computers--PCs that have become the benchmark by which other performance
systems are measured.

Today's introduction completes NEC's family of exceptional PC products,
which includes the Ready 486es and Ready Multimedia Series of small
office/home office PCs, PowerMate 486es series of general business
computers, and expandable Express servers. This focused brand strategy
allows NEC to be more responsive to specific customer needs.

The Image 486es Series are the ideal workstations for powerful
Windows-based applications. They feature NEC's exclusive ImageVideo
technology for superior graphics performance; OptiBus Technology for
maximum I/O throughput; integrated local bus IDE and FAST SCSI II device
interfaces for configuration flexibility, and industry-standard SIMM
memory expansion of up to 128MB--the most memory expansion of any desktop
PC currently available.

Representing a unique engineering achievement for this class of advanced PC
products, the Image 486es Series is fully compliant with the Environmental
Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star program, whereby the
energy-efficient PCs consume less energy than standard PCs, translating
directly into lower operating costs.

"Today's challenging economic climate has led many PC manufacturers to
abandon advanced business users to focus their finite development
resources on low-end PCs. NEC is not ignoring advanced business users
running today's powerful operating systems--NeXTStep, Windows NT, and
OS/2--who demand premium systems for graphics power," said Denny Lane,
director of desktop marketing at NEC Technologies, Inc. "The Image 486es
Series demonstrates NEC's technological leadership in the performance PC
market."

The Image 486es Series is comprised of six systems based on Intel's i486DX
processor running at 33MHz and the i486DX/2 processor running at 66MHz.
The new Image 486es Series replaces the previous generation of
award-winning Image Series models introduced in February, 1993.

ImageVideo--Superior Graphics Performance

NEC's exclusive ImageVideo technology consists of a variety of
components--including 32-bit VESA local bus video, hardware graphics
acceleration, linear addressing, True Color, 1MB of the world's fastest
45ns video memory, expansion to 2MB, and ImageSync. This combination
provides the best standard integrated video solution.

The new series includes a full 1MB of the world's fastest 45ns video
memory. This can be upgraded to 2MB, envoking memory interleaving for even
faster video performance. The Image 486es Series contains two
high-performance VESA local bus slots. Both slots provide full bus master
support, zero wait state 32-bit direct CPU interface with no additional
clock delays for superior VESA bus performance. This unique combination
makes the Image 486es the fastest VL bus implementation available. As a
result, industry-standard VL bus cards will run faster in the Image 486es
Series than in competitive products.

Next-Generation Operating System Support

To further enhance graphics performance, the Image 486es Series implements
linear addressing. With linear addressing, the CPU avoids the traditional
64KB graphics memory bottleneck. With linear address mode video drivers,
the graphics memory is always accessible to the CPU with no paging
required. Sophisticated operating systems such as NeXTStep, Windows NT,
and OS/2 take advantage of linear addressing for optimum performance.

Local IDE Bus for Balanced System Performance

The Image 486es Series features the second generation of NEC's exclusive
OptiBus technology, designed to maximize overall system performance.
OptiBus is a unique combination of optimized local bus IDE interface and
programmed I/O, that optimizes performance while maintaining industry
standard device compatibility.

Investment Protection Through VESA Local Bus and OverDrive Upgrades

For investment protection purposes, the Image 486es Series contains two
high-performance VESA local bus slots, SIMM memory expansion, buffered
serial ports, bi-directional parallel port, and the latest 237-pin ZIF
socket for upgradability to the next generation of Intel OverDrive
processor based on the Pentium core.

Distribution and Pricing Information

The Image 486es Series will be available immediately from NEC's nationwide
network of authorized resellers. Although actual prices may vary, NEC
estimates the products will sell at the following prices:

                       Image 433es Image 466es
