NSSI EXPANDS PRODUCT LINE WITH NEW 2KVA AND 1.2KVA UPSs

New Extended Battery Runtime Models Incorporate Better Power Fault
Tolerance

SPECIAL TO COMDEX November 15, 1993 - Network Security Systems Inc. (NSSI),
a recognized leader in uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) and UPS power
management software, introduced two new 2KVA (2000VA, 1600 watt) UPSs and
a new 1.2KVA (1200VA, 960 watt) extended runtime model. The IPS/A.I. 2000
provides affordable power protection for large, high-powered servers,
networked computers and telecommunications equipment. An extended battery
runtime version of the 2KVA, the IPS/A.I. 2000X is also offered. The new
IPS A.I. 1200X is also an extended battery runtime model. The products are
available now. Prices start at $1599.

In the extended runtime models, a battery charger has been incorporated
into each individual battery pack. An independent battery charger enables
users to configure the UPS with an unlimited number of battery packs
without increasing the required recharge time. This differs from other
manufacturers' systems which incorporate only a single battery charger in
the UPS itself, an approach which increases the recharge time required.
During this additional recharge time the system is left unprotected,
leaving data susceptible to corruption or loss. This freedom from battery
charging constraints makes NSSI's IPS/A.I 1200X and 2000X the most
versatile and reliable UPSs available.

The new IPS A.I.. units have been designed lo work in conjunction with
NSSI's award-winning LanSafe II network power management software,
preventing data corruption and enabling users to interactively manage UPSs
protecting network devices. LanSafe II software is available for Novell
NetWare and UNIX. The new UPSs can also be integrated with NSSI's newest
offerings: LanSafe II for NMS, an SNMP-compatible software product; and
EmPower Link, an ethernet-ready processor for hub power management and
control.

"The extended runtime capability is an absolute necessity for many
mission-critical applications, especially for users in the telecom arena
or with larger servers," said Stephen Nye, president of NSSI. "Until now,
the ability to extend runtime has been limited because, with daisy-chained
battery packs, you quickly reach a point where you can't recharge the
batteries fast enough to provide reasonable protection against subsequent
power outages. We've taken great care in our design to address this
battery recharging problem and build our UPSs for superior power backup
protection."

The IPS/A.I. 2000 has a half-load runtime of 21 minutes and a full-load
runtime of 7 minutes. The IPS/A.I. 1200X has a half-load runtime of 45
minutes and a full-load runtime of 17 minutes. Additional battery packs,
which can be configured to meet any backup time requirement, are offered
for $459 each. All NSSI UPSs are microprocessor-controlled and capable of
two-way communication via an RS-232 serial port. This enables the LanSafe
II software to receive power failure notifications from the UPSs and react
by performing an unattended orderly shutdown of a network's file
structure.

NSSI's family of UPSs include models ranging from 300VA/210 watts through
2KVA/1600 watts. Support is provided for Novell NetWare and NMS, Microsoft
Windows, OS/2, Banyan, DOS, LAN Manager, LAN Server, Windows NT and 3COM.
The company's products are available through many leading value-added
resellers and distributors including Dell, Ingram Micro, Merisel, Tech
Data and Vitek. For additional product information, contact NSSI at (800)
