Multi-Tech Shipping On-Demand Remote Node/Remote Control Gateway

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--November 15, 1993--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a
leading data communications technology company, announced today that it is
now shipping its family of on-demand remote node/remote control dial-in
communications servers for Novell IPX LANs. The MultiComRNGateways support
both remote control and remote node sessions for up to 32 remote users via
modems and phone lines. All MultiComRNGateway models include a combination
Thinnet/10BASET Ethernet NIC for connecting the Remote Node Server (RNS)
PC to the LAN. Prices range from $799 (U.S.) for the RNGCOM, which
supports up to four users via standard PC COM ports, to $2099(U.S.) for
the RNI08 that supports up to eight users via the supplied serial
expansion card (the RNI08 can be expanded to 32 users with additional
serial cards.) Dial-out datacom and send/receive fax capabilities will be
added to all MultiComRNGateways as a no-charge field upgrade in February,
1994.

"By providing on-demand remote node and remote control in our gateways, we
are answering the need for users that need both casual remote access to
LANs for such tasks as checking for E-Mail and compute intensive remote
processing involving large files and graphics, states Raghu Sharma,
President of Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "When you combine the
MultiComRNGateway with our MultiArray which can house eight Single Board
Computers (SBCs) in addition to the gateway server, you have a
communications server that can handle the widest variety of remote access
needs. And since the pricing does not depend on the number of possible
users and we do not require the presence of a NOS operating system to be
functional, our solution can save users literally thousands of dollars for
high end systems." The MultiComRNGateways consist of both hardware and
software. The hardware is a combination Thinnet/10BASET Ethernet Network
Interface Card (NIC) which connects the RNS PC to the LAN.

Some models include a multiport serial card which gives the RNS PC high
speed serial ports for the modems in eight-port increments. The software
portion is MultiExpressRNG, the gateway software, and MultiExpress,
Munti-Tech's data communications software. The MultiComRNGateways feature
advanced statistical reporting to keep track of gateway activity and
performance, and remote administration so the gateway can be managed from
any node PC.

The procedure to do both remote node and remote control during the same
user session is very simple. After dialing in to establish a remote node
session, the user runs the MultiExpress remote software. At that point the
remote user is shown a screen which displays all of the MultiExpress host
systems available on the network. The user simply picks the host that is
appropriate for the task. By invoking proper password options, you can
leave a remote control session and return to it later with a simple three
keystroke sequence to get to control mode and then selecting end session.

Multi-Tech Systems, which reported sales of $81 million for 1992, was
founded in 1970 to manufacture data communications equipment and systems
