Author Announces New FREEWARE Product: QBALL LITE Small Arms Exterior
Ballistics

You think that you might be interested in computerized ballistics, but you
don't want to spend a lot of money to find out? Sure, there are
commercial products for many dollars -- and there's Shareware which
requires registration payments. Even with Shareware trial versions,
there are the costs of getting the software from a vendor, or
connect-time charges using an electronic bulletin board system (BBS), or
a service such as CompuServe or GEnie.

How about FREEWARE?

Ben Hartley, author of QBALL, a full-featured Shareware small arms
exterior ballistics program, has released QBALL LITE, a smaller program
which will give you the "flavor" of computerized ballistics.

QBALL LITE will produce tables at fixed range increments and fixed maximum
ranges of velocities and energies, trajectory data, wind deflection for a
fixed 10-MPH crosswind, and times of flight. Limited "Zeroed at" data is
also computed. Tables are displayed on screen, and may be output as
hardcopy if you have a printer. A short User's Manual is also part of
the QBALL LITE package.

Will QBALL LITE do everything that QBALL will do? No. While it is fully
functional in its own right, QBALL LITE will not display trajectory
graphics, nor save data to disk, nor allow a user-configured display, nor
calculate point blank ranges, nor do many -- if not most -- of the other
things which QBALL will do.

So why get QBALL LITE?

"Shareware is shared software," Hartley said, "Here, I'm dealing with, if
you will, 'Ideaware,' that is, a program that shares an idea, and which
will do something useful, but which avoids the size, complication, and
'learning curve' of a more fully developed product."

"QBALL LITE is designed to give one the idea of computerized ballistics.
It's got lots of limitations, but the idea is to whet the appetite, so to
speak. Some of the people who try QBALL LITE will go on to obtain QBALL.
And some of those folks will register QBALL -- which is the whole idea,"
he said.

While Mr. Hartley retains the copyright to QBALL LITE, there is no charge
for its use; registration fees are neither requested nor desired. The
only cost is downloading: QBALL LITE takes about 7 minutes to transfer at
2400 bps. (QBALL's Shareware Edition, in contrast, takes almost 30
minutes.) Since QBALL LITE is the copyright property the author, you may
not sell it to anyone, of course. You're encouraged to pass it along to
others, as long as you don't modify or omit any of the files.

QBALL LITE has no time limitation on its use license. If you obtain and
use QBALL LITE, you're licensed to do so forever. (QBALL's Shareware
Edition has a 60-day trial-use license, after which time, you are
expected to register.)

There is absolutely minimal support available: if you obtain an incomplete
QBALL LITE package, you may contact the author for a complete set of
program and documentation files on disk. QBALL LITE, with this sole
exception, will not be available from the author. QBALL LITE will be
available on BBS and similar services, and perhaps from vendors on a
"catch-as-catch-can" basis.

QBALL LITE is available on CompuServe, in Library 14 of the Outdoors Forum
(Filename "QBALIT.ZIP"); on GEnie, in the IBM Roundtable Library
(Filename: "QBALLITE.ZIP"); and on America Online, in the Home/hobby
Library (Filename: "QBALLITE.ZIP"). You may wish to use the appropriate
service's file search functions; the keyword to use is "ballistics."

Questions of a general nature about either QBALL LITE, or its "big
brother," QBALL, may be addressed to Ben Hartley at the following e-mail
addresses: CompuServe: 70033,2612; GEnie: B.Hartley1; or AOL: BHartley.
You may also request a QBALL brochure from Benjamin W. Hartley, Forest
Park Estates #103, Jaffrey, NH 03452 (USA).
