SoundTrack allows the user to record dialog, music, and sound effects
while overdubbing video as it plays on the computer screen.

The MPEG Standard

ReelMagic is based on the MPEG (Motion Pictures Experts Group) standard,
which allows up to 72 minutes of full-motion video and sound to be pressed
on one CD-ROM. An industry standard technique for compression and
decompression, MPEG can achieve tremendous compression ratios, often as
high as 200 to 1, which allows high-quality video and sound to be played
directly from a single-speed CD-ROM. Furthermore, MPEG has received broad
backing from a number of major companies including 3DO, C-Cube, Philips,
JVC, Goldstar, Commodore, and Samsung, thus establishing it as an industry
standard.

The ReelMagic Development Standard

Because of the breakthrough represented by ReelMagic, developers have
embraced this new standard for entertainment and multimedia development.
Many more titles are under development by such leading companies as
Interplay, Psygnosis, RainMaker Software, Sierra On-Line, Trilobyte, and
Virgin Games.

To ensure that a broad selection of software titles will be available for
ReelMagic, Sigma Designs created a high-level Applications Programming
Interface (API) for DOS, and set of development tools that were provided
to developers early in the ReelMagic product design cycle. Also, since
ReelMagic supports important Windows standards such as MCI and OLE 2.0, it
is easy for developers to incorporate ReelMagic capabilities into their
own products and for users to add ReelMagic features to virtually any
application that supports OLE.
