Sigma Designs Adds Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia To Its ReelMagic
CD-ROM Upgrade Kit

New version of Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia features full-screen,
full-motion video sequences

Fremont, Calif., October 27, 1993 -- Sigma Designs, Inc. (NASDAQ--SIGM), a
leading manufacturer of PC and Macintosh displays and multimedia products,
today announced that they will include the newest version of Compton's
Interactive Encyclopedia, the first electronic encyclopedia to feature
full-screen, full-motion picture quality video, in the ReelMagic CD-ROM
Upgrade Kit.

ReelMagic CD-ROM Upgrade Kit, which carries a list price of $849, will
include the ReelMagic board, a double-speed, MPC Level 2 CD-ROM drive, a
pair of deluxe speakers, and will feature ReelMagic-compatible versions of
Activision's Return to Zork game, and Aris Entertainment's Video Cube:
Space, MPC Wizard and World View, as well as Compton's Interactive
Encyclopedia Version 2.01. The kit will begin shipping in mid-November
1993.

"We are extremely pleased to break new ground in the quality of CD-ROM
based video," said Elliott Dahan, Compton's NewMedia executive
director/business development. "Sigma Designs' ReelMagic board is an
excellent example of the innovation and quick response to ever-improving
standards that are characteristic multimedia and the high-technology
industry."

Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia Version 2.01 will feature more than 25
MPEG video sequences running at a smooth, cinema quality 30 frames per
second. The videos range from extensive footage on World War II to NASA
sequences of the space shuttle complete with 44.1 kHz CD-quality audio.

An MPEG version of The Sporting News Pro Football Guide so from Compton's
NewMedia, will soon be released and support the ReelMagic standard.

"Software developers are now ready to move on the next step in video
quality. Until now, video sequences on PCs have only been able to run at a
maximum of 15 frames per second, often resulting in pixelated images that
did not completely synchronize the video and sound," said Frank Leonardi,
executive vice president of sales and marketing at Sigma Designs. "We are
extremely pleased to debut ReelMagic with the history-making Compton's
Interactive Encyclopedia, the first-ever to integrate video into an
encyclopedia, and now the first to offer full-screen, full-motion video."

Sigma Designs' ReelMagic stand-alone board, bundled with Activision's
Return to Zork, has a suggested list price of $449 and has just begun
shipping. All ReelMagic controllers carry a five-year parts and labor
warranty and CD-ROM drives are covered by a one-year manufacturer's
warranty.
