Weitek Extends POWER 9000 Family

Fall Rollout Features Increased Graphics Acceleration, Fully-Accelerated
24-bit True Color and Full-Screen, Full-Motion, TV-Quality Digital Video

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--November 1, 1993 - Weitek Corporation (NASDAQ:WWTK)
today introduced enhancements to the Weitek POWER 9000 family of graphics
accelerators, including new software drivers and a PCI local bus interface
gate array for the industry-leading POWER 9000; the new POWER 9100, a
next-generation graphics accelerator for professional desktop computer
systems running Microsoft Windows and advanced 32-bit operating systems;
and the Weitek Video POWER, a dedicated coprocessor for dramatically
improving the performance and quality of full-motion digital video running
under Microsoft's Video for Windows in a POWER 9100-equipped environment.

To be demonstrated for the first time at COMDEX Fall '93, these new
offerings extend Weitek's performance leadership established last year
with the highly acclaimed Weitek POWER 9000, the world's fastest graphics
accelerator.

Weitek Enhanced POWER 9000 and POWER 9001

Performance of the Weitek POWER 9000 has been improved through a host of
new software drivers, including OS/2 2.1, Windows NT, Microstation and SCO
UNIX, as well as with improvements to existing software drivers that boost
the performance of Windows applications and AutoCAD by as much as 50
percent.

Weitek also introduced today its new PCI local bus interface device, the
POWER 9001, which works only with the POWER 9000. The Weitek POWER 9001 is
specifically designed to provide the highest-performance PCI interfacing
capabilities available today. The 160-pin PQFP chip also controls the SVGA
logic, BIOS, RAMDAC and clock synthesizer.

"From its first day on the market the Weitek POWER 9000 has set the
performance benchmark to beat in the high-end Windows accelerator market,"
said Bob Butchko, Weitek's director of marketing. "Our new and improved
software drivers combined with broader platform support and new PCI
interface device allows Weitek customers to continue to build more
affordable and even higher performing system products for PC users."

Weitek POWER 9100

The Weitek POWER 9100 is a next-generation, fully-integrated graphics
accelerator which provides a single-chip true color solution for the
professional desktop. In only four megabytes of memory, the POWER 9100 can
run fully-accelerated 24-bit true color at screen resolutions as high as
1280 x 1024 with WinBench 3.1 1 WinMarks in excess of 30 million. On a
single chip, the digital video-ready POWER 9100 also integrates SVGA
functionality, and VESA VL and Intel PCI local bus circuitry--replacing
previous discrete logic implementations.

"Today's professional desktop computers--Intel 486- or Pentium-based
systems running Windows, OS/2, NT or UNIX and equipped with a local
bus--require graphics acceleration and video enhancement that can keep
pace today as well as in the future with advanced CPUs, motherboard
designs, 32-bit operating systems and software applications," said
Butchko. "Owing to its workstation roots, only the Weitek POWER 9100,
working with the Video POWER companion chip, is delivering that kind of
scalable performance."

Weitek Video POWER

The Weitek Video POWER device, working exclusively with the POWER 9100,
improves the performance and image quality of any Video for Windows
application by off-loading most video computing functions from the
computer's central processor. This allows digital video applications to
run full screen at 30 frames per second at resolutions as high as 1280 x
1024. By comparison, digital video applications are currently limited to
small (120 x 160 or 240 x 320) windows, because they suffer severe image
and motion degradation when displayed in larger frame sizes.

To maximize application compatibility the Weitek Video POWER will be
supporting all of the leading compression/ decompression (codec) formats
including Intel Corp.'s Indeo, SuperMac Technology's Cinepack, Media
Vision Inc.'s Captain Crunch and Xing Technology Corporation's
implementation of the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) codec.

In addition, the newly adopted VESA Media Channel Bus Interface standard is
an integrated feature of Video POWER.

"With the POWER 9100 and Video POWER, end-users will find all Video for
Windows applications far more usable with full screen, full motion video
at TV quality on their desktops," noted Butchko.

Price and Availability

The Weitek POWER 9000's price/performance ratio is significantly better
today than at its introduction. The POWER 9000 is now priced at $45 in
production quantities, down from $65, while delivering a 50 percent
improvement in performance. The Weitek POWER 9001 is also available
immediately and is priced at $18 in production quantities.

The Weitek POWER 9100 and Weitek Video POWER will be sampling in the fall
of 1993 and shipping in the first quarter of 1994 in limited quantities to
qualified original equipment manufacturers designing true color, digital
video-ready computer systems. The POWER 9100 and Video POWER will be
priced at $85 and $30, respectively, in production quantities.

The Company Weitek Corporation makes processors that enhance the
performance of standard operating systems, user interfaces and application
software. Weitek processors are used to build faster, more intuitive and
competitive workstations and high-performance personal computers and
peripherals.
