VIDEOTOOLKIT COMPLEMENTS SONY'S NEW CVD-500

Supports newest Vdeck drive for cataloging, editing, and QuickTime
moviemaking

MILLIS, MA (January 5, 1994) -- Abbate Video, Inc., confirmed support for
Sony's newest ViSCA product entry, the CVD-500 Vdeck Drive, in their
VideoToolkitTM videotape logging, editing, and QuickTime moviemaking
software. In addition, Abbate Video has added these same drivers to their
recently announced "VTK Plug In PackTM" for use with Adobe PremiereTM.

The VideoToolkitTM ($279-$299) is a complete software and control cable
package for cataloging, editing and digitizing video footage. Currently
shipping for the Macintosh, and in the final stages of development for the
PC, VideoToolkit offers affordable computer control of consumer and
professional camcorders, VCRs and VTRs. The VTK Plug In PackTM ($99) gives
Adobe Premiere users control over the widest range of camcorders and VCR's
(from consumer to pro, including Abbate Video's ViSCA drivers) in one
complete package.

"The VideoToolkit product family has always complemented Sony's ViSCA
product line. In fact, Abbate Video has been delivering logging and
editing support for Sony ViSCA customers almost since the day the original
Vdeck shipped," comments Mark Abbate, Founder and Chief Designer. "In
fact, VideoToolkit gives ViSCA users maximum flexibility because it lets
them control the equipment they already own, while at the same time giving
them "plug-and-play" control over the newest ViSCA offerings."

Notes Philip Palombo, an Abbate Principal, "We've identified the strengths
of the newest Vdeck entry, and we can recommend a VideoToolkit and CVD-500
combination to prospective customers in the following areas:

For accurate cataloging of regular 8mm tapes, VideoToolkit can read the
CVD-500's RC timecode. As a result, the VideoToolkit becomes an ideal
cataloging front end for educators, librarians, and researchers who wish
to archive video footage accurately.

For entry-level editing, consumers who already own regular 8mm camcorders
can use the CVD-500 to stripe RC timecode onto existing tape, and then use
the VideoToolkit to accurately log and assemble their footage back onto
the camcorder or VCR they already own.

For 30-frame-per-second QuickTime moviemaking, budding QuickTime
enthusiasts can use VideoToolkit's unique "step-and-grab" feature, along
with the CVD-500's stable still frame, to assemble 8mm footage one frame
at a time. The result: a 30-frame-per-second digital movie using an
accurate, low-cost source deck and virtually any QuickTime-compatible
digitizer."

In addition to Sony's ViSCA products, the VideoToolkit can directly control
consumer, "prosumer" and professional video equipment having any of the
following remote control ports: Control-L (LANC), Control-M (Panasonic's
5-pin remote), RS-422 (Panasonic, Sony and JVC professional gear), and
RS-232 (Panasonic, JVC, NEC PC-VCR, Mitsubishi BV-2000, Sanyo GVR-S950).
Recorders having Control-S, Control-P, or Infrared Remote capability can
also be controlled using VideoToolkit.

In its fourth year of providing video software and consulting services for
a broad range of customers, Abbate Video, Inc., has a long list of
achievements. Abbate received a US Patent in 1991 for developing direct
cable control of consumer video equipment from a personal computer. Also a
first was the company's delivery of Mac-based support for Sony's ViSCA
protocol, used in the company's Vdeck and Vbox products. Abbate's
VideoToolkit provides exclusive software support for Mitsubishi's BV-2000
high-resolution S-VHS deck. It also continues to fully support the NEC
PC-VCR. Recent enhancements include added support for Panasonic's AG-5700
and AG-1970 models, JVC's BR-S605, 622, and 822 models, Panasonic's
Optical Disc Drives, and Sanyo's GVR-S950 S-VHS VCR.

The VideoToolkit can be used with any Macintosh, from the Mac Plus to the
newest A/V computer family. Using the VideoToolkit with a PowerBook,
customers can log and edit anywhere with "the world's smallest editing
system." By adding any QuickTime-capable digitizer (or using the built-in
digitizing features of the new A/V family), users can store snapshots of
in- and out-points for each scene, assemble the scenes directly to
QuickTime movies, and display a live video window on screen for
convenience while logging.

The VideoToolkit product family is made up of economical tools for
professionals, independents, educators, and enthusiasts.
