Fastest Wireless Adapter Offers Plug & Play Ease of PCMCIA and Hub
Technology

San Diego--January 10--1994-- Solectek Corp. today announced that
AIRLAN/PCMCIA, the newest member of its AIRLAN wireless Ethernet product
family, is now available for sale through resellers and national
distributors including Tech Data, Ingram Micro and Merisel. AIRLAN/PCMCIA
provides plug-and-play connectivity to users of portable PCs, rounding out
the suite of wireless LAN products available from Solectek.

"Solectek's timing is perfect," said Portia Isaacson of Dream IT, Inc. "It
is ready with a comprehensive wireless LAN product line including hubs,
bridges, PCMCIA cards and application expertise at exactly the time when
workers equipped with PCMCIA-ready notebooks are lighting a fire under the
wireless LAN market. This is a company to watch."

Designed for use with PCMCIA equipped notebook computers, AIRLAN enables
users to link to the LAN while roaming within a building. In addition to
extending cabled networks, AIRLAN is ideally suited for creating entire
wireless LANs or temporary field networks.

"Mobility is one key to the success of the wireless LAN marketplace," said
Craig J. Mathis of Farpoint Group, a consulting and systems-integration
firm in Ashland, MA. "Solectek's AIRLAN/PCMCIA card, since it's based on
an important new industry-standard interface, has the benefit of
applicability to a broad range of mobile and stationary and communications
devices."

AIRLAN operates at 2 Mbps and supports all major network operating systems
including Novell NetWare, Artisoft LANtastic and Microsoft Windows for
Workgroups. It uses proven spread spectrum 915 MHz radio technology to
pass data through walls, ceilings and floors. No line-of-sight operation
is required. Its tiny omni-directional antenna provides complete coverage
up to 800 feet, and even further when used with Solectek's AIRLAN/Hub
access point. AIRLAN weighs only 5.25 ounces and is small enough to fit in
a purse or pocket.

AIRLAN installs into any PCMCIA slot (Type II, Release 2.0), and uses
menu-driven configuration instructions. No external AC power or cabling is
required. The antenna comes with a self mounting bracket for easy
connection to the notebook. Within minutes, all the services of the
network are available to an AIRLAN equipped notebook, with instant
feedback provided to the user. Green LED indicators inform users of a
connection, and automatically indicate activity status when data is
transmitted and received.

"Wireless technology eliminates much of the complexity of LAN installation,
and using AIRLAN/PCMCIA with our AIRLAN Hub takes that installation
simplicity one step further," said James DeBello, president of Solectek.
"We even eliminate the need to open the server if the user chooses not
to."

Solectek's Technical Sales group supports all AIRLAN products with a team
of wireless application engineers which provide free consultation. Now
available are the AIRLAN wireless Ethernet Adapters, the AIRLAN/Hub for
access to the LAN with no cabling, and the AIRLAN/Bridge for extention of
the LAN to surrounding buildings.
