MKS and Prentice-Hall bring the Internet to DOS users
"A DOS User's Guide to the Internet"

January 18, 1994 (Waterloo, ON) - Mortice Kern Systems, Inc. and
Prentice-Hall have teamed up to bring the riches of the Internet and the
power of advanced UNIX communications software to the world of DOS users.

Much more than just a description of the Internet and its services, this
book written by James Gardner provides detailed, hands on instructions on
how to access the Internet using the bundled UUCP software for DOS from
MKS. The book is entitled "A DOS User's Guide to the Internet".

In easy-to-follow examples, the book explains how to send and receive
electronic mail across the Internet, how to receive and reply to any of
the Internet's thousands of newsgroups, and how to transfer files over the
Internet. The book also explains how the UUCP software can be used to
send and receive information between the home office and travelling
business people.

The UNIX operating system is renowned for its advanced communications
capabilities, built on the UUCP protocol and utility suite. MKS UUCP
enables users to carry out a variety of communciations tasks - from
sending and receiving electronic mail to file transfer and remote command
executions - in the background between DOS and UNIX. The software provided
with the book is a subset of MKS Toolkit 4.1, including the uucp and mailx
programs. All the user needs to operate the software is a DOS PC and a
modem or direct connection between two machines.

The book and software bundle is available November 15 in major bookstore
chains across North America, including Waldenbooks, B. Daltons, and Barnes
and Noble. It is also available through software resellers such as
Egghead Discount Software and Ingram Micro. Technical bookstores such as
Computer Literacy, Quantum Books, and Stacey's will also carry the book.
It is priced at US$34.95. Prentice-Hall makes this book/software bundle
available throughout their international sales channels.
