Sanctuary Woods Breaks The Boys Club In Computer Games

Introduces Series of Interactive Mystery Adventures for Girls

SAN MATEO, Calif., December 6, 1993--Sanctuary Woods Multimedia Inc.
(NASDAQ: SWMCF; VSE: SWD.V) today introduced Hawaii High, a series of
interactive mystery adventures developed especially for girls in the
tradition of Nancy Drew. The first product in the series, The Mystery of
The Tiki, is available now in CD-ROM format for Windows and Macintosh
computers.

The Hawaii High series is part of Sanctuary Woods I-ventures brand of
interactive comic book adventures for kids. Hawaii High, which follows the
adventures of two high school friends at Hawaii High, has been produced
especially for girls ages 8-12.

Although girls represent some 30 percent of new game players in the U.S.,
they are frequently left by the wayside in the interactive marketplace
which generally caters primarily to a young male audience with homogenous
orientations. Very few games routinely include female characters. Out of
those, many feature masculine female leads in video game settings that
encourage male interests. Other games deal with the gender issue by
providing protagonists that are genderneutral, such as animated characters
or robots. Few companies have offered girls their own adventures with true
female role models.

"We strongly believe that girls should be included in the interactive
experience," said Scott Walchek, president of Sanctuary Woods. "This
market skew has a long history in the media industry, be it the
television, comic book or video game markets. With the emergence of
interactive media, we can change that by addressing girls interests on
equal footing with boys."

Sanctuary Woods has teamed up with one of America's leading girls
storytellers, Trina Robbins, to write, illustrate and create interactive
stones for the Hawaii High series that draw specifically on girls'
interests and provide strong, positive female heroines.

A renowned comic book artist and children's book writer, Trina Robbins is a
writer and artist for Barbie Comics and is the first woman in "comic book"
history to draw Wonder Woman.

"Girls need to have their own heroines and adventures, just like boys have
theirs," said Trina Robbins. "With Hawaii High, we've provided just that:
Two high school girls that are problem solvers; they're independent; and
above all, they make choices. And because the story's interactive, it's
really the player that learns these skills as she makes decisions and
guides her characters through the story."

In The Mystery of the Tiki, players help young friends Jennifer and Maleah
in their search to solve the mystery of a stolen Hawaiian Tiki. Jennifer,
a New York native, wonders if she'll ever fit into her new home on the
island of Hawaii--that is, until she and Maleah, a local girl, stumble
upon the Tiki and embark on an adventure to return it to its home, a
sacred Hawaiian cave.

Jennifer and Maleah meet both friend and foe in a whirlwind journey that
takes them across Hawaii. They encounter bumbling thieves, a talking Myna
bird, a speedy Gecko and two Hawaiian legend spirits: the Ghostly Kahuna,
guardian of the Tiki, and Madame Pele, goddess of the volcano. Along the
way, with help from the players, they must research exotic legends for
clues, solve perplexing puzzles and master a menacing maze to solve the
mystery.

The Mystery of the Tiki intermingles Trina's story and artwork with plenty
of multimedia extras that include catchy Hawaiian music; animation;
beautiful graphics; and of course, a branching storyline with several
solution paths.

The Mystery of the Tiki also includes an encyclopedia of Hawaiian history
and six digital video "mini-movies" covering topics including Hawaii's
coral reefs, flora and fauna, volcanoes and even the Hula dance ! A
Hawaiian guidebook appears on each page of the story, allowing players to
double-click on any term in the index (e.g. the great chiefs, lava,
petroglyphs) to receive a text and pictorial definition.
