Extreme Machine! ALR 66MHz Pentium With Lahey Software

Imagine twice the performance of a 66MHz 486 and nearly three times the
power of a 33MHz 486. That's what you can expect when you run your Fortran
programs on an ALR Evolution V 66MHz Pentium PC. Imagine how the best
32-bit FORTRAN 77 language system will run on that machine. Now, imagine
running Lahey's upcoming Fortran 90 language system on that machine--the
very machine for which it is optimized. Stop imagining! An ALR Evolution V
Pentium computer combined with Lahey Fortran language systems is an
extreme machine for your toughest code.

The 66MHz ALR Evolution V Pentium machine is bundled with our
state-of-the-art Fortran, F77L-EM/32. As an added bonus, we will ship you
our Fortran 90 when it is released. Using Intel's code generation
technology, our Fortran 90 is fully optimized for the Pentium processor to
give you maximum performance.

If you're thinking about buying a new machine, this ALR/Lahey combination
is hard to beat. With an ALR Pentium and Lahey's Fortran language systems,
you get performance previously only available on workstations and
mainframes--at a fraction of the cost.

Put an ALR Pentium-based system with Lahey Fortran on your desktop today
and take your programming to the extreme. L

Increased Speed With APR's Parallelization Tools for Workstations

We are pleased to announce we have reached an agreement to sell Applied
Parallel Research's (APR) suite of HPF (High Performance Fortran) and
parallelization software tools for workstations. The decision to carry APR
products is based on the needs of our users porting their PC Fortran
applications to workstations. Using the APR parallelization tools,
programmers can Increase the execution speed of their programs by taking
advantage of parallel and multiple processing on workstations. The APR
tools are available for Sun, IBM, and HP workstations.

Selling APR's parallelization tools is the first step in Lahey's business
relationship with APR. We are jointly developing products that will enable
PC users to create fast and highly portable Fortran programs that take
advantage of parallel processors on personal computers, Novell networks,
workstations, and supercomputers.

We are also investigating combining APR and Lahey software technology with
highly scalable remote servers ("LAN in a Can"). The multi-processor
machines plug into Novell networks allowing your HPF programs to take
advantage of the multi-CPU configuration.

APR's Forge 90 tools convert and optimize Fortran programs
into applications that take advantage of parallel processing. Using the
interactive menus found in the Forge 90 tools, you can analyze your code
and decompose the important arrays enabling you to distribute DO loops
across parallel processors. After the parallelization session, a post
processor will generate the code for the target system and specified
number of processors. APR software tools can be used for converting
existing FORTRAN 77 programs to HPF and developers can use the tools to
assist in the creation of new HPF programs.

If you want to take advantage of parallel processing on workstations or are
interested in multi-CPU machines, please call the Lahey Sales Department
and ask for Giles Rider (ext. 446).

Don't Forget to Update to EM/32 5.2

In October '93, we began shipping F77L-EM/32 Version 5.2. This release
marked the debut of the best 32-bit debugger we have ever produced. If you
still have not purchased your update, give us a call today and move up to
our best EM/32 ever. By the way, if you buy or update to the current
version of EM/32, you have the option to pre-purchase our upcoming Fortran
90 for $400 (due to be released in the second quarter of '94) and
beta test it in the first quarter of '94. See the "It's Not
Too Late" story earlier for more details.

EM/32's new SOLD (Source On-Line Debugger) is full of new features to help
you debug your code quickly and accurately. With its improved speed and
additional features, you will find SOLD a useful and productive tool for
your Fortran programming.

New Look

The first thing you will notice about SOLD is its new look. There is now an
Action Window (formerly the Command Window) that is used to enter commands
and view responses from SOLD. In previous versions of SOLD, the user had
to look in a log file or pop-up window to retrieve the output of previous
SOLD commands. The new version of SOLD automatically displays your output
on the same screen as your entered command. You may also scroll back and
view SOLD commands and results that were entered earlier in your debugging
sessions.

Improved Find Function

Another new feature in the latest version of SOLD is the improved Find
function. You can now use Find to search for text anywhere in your program
and use it to look for previous commands and results used in your debug
session. With this feature, you can easily trace your steps or quickly
locate specific lines in your program.

Expanded On-Line Help System The on-line help system has been re-engineered
and expanded to include an index page that allows you to quickly access
information you need. All help topics are available on a single page, so
less scrolling is required to get an answer quickly. The help system also
includes the ability to browse between topics and numerous examples of
command syntax.

Simplified Commands In general, many commands have been simplified to
require fewer keystrokes. You may now quickly run to a line in the Listing
Window without having to set a permanent break point. A quick reference
card summarizing the syntax of SOLD commands and the user interface keys
is provided with the new manual.

Updates are priced at $75 for 5.x to 5.2, $250 for any 4.x version, and
$300 for versions 3.0 and earlier. Contact the Lahey Sales Department
today to place your order. (800) 548-4778 or (702) 831-2500, Fax: (702)

"A Look at Fortran 90"
An Overview of Fortran 90 and Lahey's Technology

Want to learn more about Fortran 90 and Lahey's upcoming Fortran 90
language system? Call us for our educational paper, "A Look at Fortran
90." This paper outlines the modern programming techniques available in
Fortran 90 and key reasons for using them in writing your Fortran
programs. "A Look at Fortran 90" helps distinguish Fortran 77 coding
practices that can be used and those that should be avoided if you are
planning to switch to Fortran 90. This document also gives you a sneak
preview of our Fortran 90 language system. The paper explains why we think
our compiler design and Intel code generation technology will make this
product a market leader. "A Look at Fortran 90" is scheduled for
availability in early February. If you would like to receive a free copy,
please call us.

See Us at Software Development

We invite you to stop by and see us at the Lahey Computer Systems booth
(#1913) at the Software Development Conference & Exhibition in San Jose,
CA, March 14-18, 1994.

You can talk to representatives from both our Sales and Technical Support
Departments about our current Fortran language systems as well as our
upcoming Fortran 90.
