Lancaster, Pennsylvania, January 24, 1994 -- Laser Communications, Inc.
(LCI), a unit of Safeguard Scientifics (NYSE: SFE), today announced the
availability of the LACE Video Transceiver Series for wireless
interbuilding video transmission. The series features both one- and
two-way transmission capability and a video bandwidth of 7.5 MHz for high
image resolution.

Ideal for security, surveillance and teleconferencing, LACE Video
Transceiver utilizes infrared laser technology for transmissions between
the video camera and monitor in line-of-sight applications of up to one
kilometer. The series can accommodate NTSC, PAL and SECAM video formats
and can relay remote control camera operating instructions over the laser
communication channel.

LACE Video Transceiver is a cost-effective alternative to cable, fiber

"This series further expands the possibilities available in wireless
telecommunications," says Michael Berman, vice president of marketing for
LCI. "Our laser technology is used around the world for LAN connectivity
in the transmission of high-speed data and as a telephone system
alternative for the transmission of audio. With LACE Video Transceiver, we
can state that laser beams truly have a place in the video age."

LACE Video Transceiver prices average $11,000, depending on configuration.
