NCR Microelectronics sponsors a BBS for information about SCSI devices and
standards. The BBS lets you download documentation such as the SCSI Plug
and Play draft document. You'll find information about standards, books,
driver software, and the SCSI architectural road map. Message areas let
you converse with other BBS members to exchange technical help. You can
also get the latest news about SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 standards and ANSI X39T.2
(SCSI) meetings. You can even get hotel information for upcoming meetings.
To connect to the BBS, dial 719-574-0424 on modems from 300 to 14,400
bps.

Supposedly Microsoft is starting to hedge on promised Chicago (Windows 4.0)
beta code zhip dates. A report and analysis is in this month's issue of
Windows Watcher from Jesse Berst (206-881-7354, fax 206-883-1452). One
possible cause: key customers & developers are deluging the company with
requests for Chicago modifications. One possible result: a 1995 debut
date!

Major retailers - Sears, KMart, Wal-Mart, Ben Franklin, etc. - all insist
on "compliance labeling" for packages of incoming goods. Each company sets
its own specific standards. Now, standard compliance labeling for each of
these companies comes in the box, standard, with all the new StrandWare
labeling software, from Quick Draw up. Small manufacturers who don't use
compliance labeling can have shipments refused and fnes assessed, so it's
a lot smarter to work with StrandWare than to fiddle up the wrong lable
format with a word processor. StrandWare Inc (Eau Claire, WI)

IBM announced the formation of a new unit to pull together the development,
marketing, and financial functions of all PC-based servers. The new group
is supposedly called IBM PC Co.-Servers. IBM will also merge the PS/2 and
ValuePoint lines' sales and marketing personnel under one brand with a
greater emphasis on the small, medium, and large corporate customer.

IBM also unveiled a suite of products for electronic distribution and
maintenance of software for decentralized systems. The NetView
Distribution Manager line places applications on multiple AIX and OS/2
systems from a central point. More networking announcements are due
shortly. IBM and Chipcom will unveil a next-generation hub that will offer
asynchronous transfer mode capabilities, and IBM will announce a series of
software and hardware upgrades to make it easier for companies to
implement the Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking scheme.
