Gupta Ships SQLWindows 4.1--Expands the Power of SQLWindows for
Mission-Critical Client/Server Applications and Introduces New Ease-of-Use
Features

Menlo Park, Calif., January 17, 1994 -- Gupta Corporation (NASDAQ: GPTA),
announced today the shipment of SQLWindows 4.1, a new version of the
Leading client/server application development system that expands
SQLWindows' power for developing mission-critical applications, increases
programmer productivity and introduces over 40 new ease-of-use features.

"Gupta developers are using SQLWindows to create truly business-critical
client/server applications. We're again leading
the PC client-server development market by providing
maximum power and productivity and making SQLWindows
even easier to use," said Umang P. Gupta president and CEO of Gupta
Corporation.

SQLWindows 4.1 gives developers even more power to build complex
applications through new functions that include seamless support for
Visual Basic Custom Controls (VBXs), Window Classes, business graphics,
closer integration with Oracle and integration with Popkin System
Architect and LBMS Systems Engineer, two leading CASE tools.

Gupta has made SQLWindows even easier to use with an enhanced design
interface that helps new users come up to speed faster and experienced
users work more efficiently. The added features allow developers to more
easily navigate SQLWindows and to build applications more intuitively and
with less coding.

New Features for Power and Productivity

Support for Visual Basic Custom Controls (VBXs). Developers can now take
advantage of the wide selection of custom controls developed for Microsoft
Visual Basic, producing more powerful applications faster using pre-built
objects. VBXs, such as gauge controls and animated push buttons, can be
seamlessly integrated with SQLWindows applications and then customized for
a particular application.

Window Classes. Gupta has made it easier to re-use and maintain large
groups of objects with Window Classes. Developers can now save an entire
window and all its contents (including data fields, push buttons, etc.) as
one re-usable object. These "windows" of objects can then be easily mixed
and matched with other windows and individual objects. SQLWindows'
powerful combination of Window Classes and multiple inheritance makes
application maintenance easier since changes made to "parent" objects are
automatically reflected in "child" objects.

New Business Graphics. The close integration between SQLWindows and Quest,
Gupta's data management tool for end-users, brings developers many of the
enhanced features of . Quest 2.1, including integrated business graphics.

Quest 2.1 and the new Quest Reporter offer automatic and dynamic graph
creation and generation and a number of new graphing abilities. Bit mapped
versions of all the business graphics created with Quest and Quest
Reporter can be easily included in SQLWindows applications.

Links to CASE Tools. Gupta's Tools Integration for the Enterprise
architecture (TIE) defines a comprehensive set of Application Programming
Interfaces (APIs) that enable SQLWindows integration with third-party
products. SQLWindows 4.1 offers immediate links to two leading CASE
products: Popkin System Architect and LBMS Systems Engineer.

The integration between CASE tools and SQLWindows provides a complete
life-cycle development solution from analysis and design through
application development and maintenance. Integration between SQLWindows
and CASE tools is made possible through an interface to the Gupta Open
Repository. Links between SQLWindows and other leading CASE products are
under development either by Gupta or the CASE vendors themselves, and
planned for availability later in 1994.

Enhanced Connectivity to Oracle databases. Gupta has increased performance
and functionality for SQLWindows applications connecting to the Oracle
RDBMS. For example, developers can now use the Oracle array interface to
speed performance and cut network traffic as well as fully exploit Oracle
PL/SQL stored procedures to query and update databases.

Ease of Use Features

Gupta has introduced over 40 new interface enhancements that make
SQLWindows 4.1 easier to use and overall increase programmer productivity.
Developers will see significant new navigation features, code generation
and ease-of-use capabilities. Together, these new features make graphical
application development more intuitive, increase productivity and shorten
the SQLWindows learning curve. As the premier product in its class,
SQLWindows has always been recognized for its openness, power and
extensibility. With the enhanced interfaces, unlocking the power of the
SQLWindows system is now easier than ever.

The additional ease-of-use features include a new designer screen layout,
an array of Choosers that allow developers to set conditions graphically
instead of writing code, a Push-Pin feature that helps developers better
manage the multi-windowed design environment, an intelligent system for
automatically defining master-detail form links, and a right mouse button
object inspection.
