StarNine ships personal Internet gateway for PowerTalk

Announces Special Promotional Offer with System 7 Pro from Apple Computer

San Francisco, CA, 1/5/94 - StarNine Technologies, Inc. announced at
MacWorld today that it is shipping Mail*Link Internet for PowerTalk,
personal gateway software that allows System 7 Pro users in SMTP/POP3
environments to exchange messages with Internet mail users. The company
also said a special $29 promotional price for a single-user license of
Mail*Link Internet for PowerTalk will be offered on specially marked boxes
of System 7 Pro through March 31, 1994.

"Mail*Link Internet represents a major step forward for Macintosh users by
bringing the world-wide reach of Internet mail to the desktop," said Tom
Biddulph, founder and CEO of StarNine. "With MIME support included,
we're offering a high degree of compatibility between Macintosh and other
Internet users."

According to Gursharan Sidhu, AppleSoft's Director of Collaboration
Products, "Our vision for PowerTalk is to act as the user's on-ramp to the
world's data highways. Mail*Link Internet for PowerTalk helps make this
vision a reality today and we're pleased to be working with StarNine to
make this key solution widely available."

Mail*Link Internet for PowerTalk version 1.0 supports System 7 Pro
Macintoshes with MacTCP (included) on a local area network. It uses the
standard Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Post Office Protocol
(POP3) on UNIX servers for sending and reading mail within the LAN. If
the LAN is connected to the Internet, PowerTalk users can also exchange
messages with external Internet users.

Incoming Internet messages are placed in the PowerTalk universal mailbox on
the desktop. Users can send Internet messages from within their preferred
PowerTalk-savvy application such as WordPerfect, CE Software's QuickMail
AOCE, or the Finder. The gateway supports standard Macintosh file
enclosure handling methods including AppleSingle-UUEncode, Datafork
only-UUENCODE, MacBinary, and BinHex, as well as MIME (Multi-purpose
Internet Mail Extensions), the emerging standard for exchanging files
between diverse operating systems on the Internet.

Through the first quarter of 1994, buyers of System 7 Pro will be able to
order Mail*Link Internet for PowerTalk at the special $29 price by faxing
or mailing in the coupon in specially marked boxes of System 7 Pro. The
special promotional offer is available in the U.S. and Canada. Any System
7 Pro user can purchase the gateway by downloading an on-line order form
from StarNine's anonymous FTP server (ftp.starnine.com; path:
/pub/orders/powertalk-pop-order.txt), AppleLink, or by contacting
StarNine directly.

After March 31, 1994, suggested retail prices for Mail*Link Internet for
PowerTalk will be $65 for a single-user pack and will also be available in
10-user packs for $595, 20-user packs for $995, 50-user packs for $1,995,
and 100-user packs for $2,995. Site-licenses and educational discounts
are available.
