New ALCHEMY Windows Software Turns Business Data Into Gold CDs Using Any CD
Recorder

San Jose, CA (March 1, 1994) -- IMR introduces Alchemy, the first business
software application for CD recorders that combines powerful data
management and indexing with an easy to use Windows interface for search
and retrieval. Alchemy enables one user or a workgroup to collect text and
image files in their native format, organize the files into folders, index
each file by full text or key words, and then copy the indexed files to a
CD using any industry-standard CD recorder. A small, powerful search
engine with a Windows interface is placed on the CD, allowing any user
with a CD-ROM drive to search by full text or Query-by-Example, and find
any file in under three seconds. The file can be viewed without launching
the application, then printed or copied to a local directory. The
royalty-free search engine empowers users to distribute their data on CD
without restrictions.

"With the recent introduction of low-priced CD recorders, there is an
increasing demand for a standard application such as Alchemy which can be
used by the average PC user," said Robert Drucker, CEO of IMR. He also
stated, "with CDs selling for under $20 for 660 MB capacity, there is a
new and emerging market for CDs as an archival alternative to hard disks
and tape, to create huge portable databases, or to replace paper and
microfilm for computer output."

Search Technology -- Alchemy's patent-pending GoldRush search engine has
been carefully designed to address the problems typically associated with
the CD-ROM medium. Any search, browse, view or retrieval operation is
usually completed with a single seek, overcoming the slow access time
associated with CD-ROM drives. Highly compressed index and search
algorithms provide unequaled search speed for unstructured data. Searches
can be performed via Full Text, Table of Contents, Key Word and
Query-by-Example. For the first time, data and indices can span multiple
CDs with Alchemy's exclusive CDspan technology, making Alchemy the ideal
software for corporate applications that employ CD-ROM towers or
jukeboxes.

Improves Upon Existing Solutions -- Alchemy combines the powerful data
management functions of expensive, complex authoring software with the
ease of use common in popular Windows applications software. Before
Alchemy, users had the laborious task of document conversion and tagging.
Alchemy eliminates this step by storing the data in native format.
Furthermore, Alchemy is the first application to take full advantage of a
CD recorder's multiple session capabilities, allowing indexed files to be
appended until the CD is full. Unlike other CD-R software, distribution of
the Alchemy search engine on CDs is royalty-free (excluding service
bureaus). Alchemy is compatible with all ISO 9660 CD recorders and
premastering software.

Availability -- Alchemy is available immediately from IMR, with a suggested
retail price of $995 for the single-user edition. Options include ISO 9660
premastering software, network licenses for workgroups, an extraction
program to easily convert COM or any computer report output to CD, and a
professional version for service bureaus.
