March 1, 1994 -- (INTERMEDIA, SAN JOSE) -- World Library, Inc., has

Civilization, Will and Ariel Durant's acclaimed compilation of more than
3,000 years of world history. The full text of all 11 volumes, more than
800 illustrations, audio and video will be available on one CD-ROM
containing both Microsoft Windows and DOS versions. The new title will be
available for release in early summer for under $ 100.

The Story of Civilization details the history and cultures of civilizations
worldwide, from prehistoric times to approximately 1840. Individual
volumes include The Life of Greece, Caesar and Christ, The Age of Faith,
The Renaissance, The Reformation, The Age of Voltaire, and Rousseau and
Revolution.

Throughout the 40-year period it took to compile the 11 volumes of The
Story of Civilization, the Durants pursued their goal of creating a
complete and comprehensive series which would not only document the major
events in history, but also the structural elements of each civilization,
such as politics, law, economics, ideology and industry.

The Durant's studies ranged from the ancient cultures of early Greece, to
the youth of Christianity, the Dark Ages and Italian Renaissance, the
debate between faith and reason, and the collapse of feudal France. The
Story of Civilization is the most popular multi-volume book series of all
time, selling millions of copies through the Book of the Month Club
alone.

The Story of Civilization offers users the same flexibility in research and
readability as the company's popular Library of The Future series. Windows
users can cut and paste text from any volume in the series to a word
processor. Text can be downloaded to a floppy disk so that the user can
read from a desktop computer. With Windows, the user also has the option
of adjusting the font style and size of the text, and under DOS or
Windows, users can print portions or the entire text if desired.

The Story of Civilization also features Instant Access, a powerful search
engine that locates all references of any of the CD's words or phrases in
a matter of seconds. Users can access any of the works instantly from a
main menu, as well as designate up to 99 bookmarks. The program also lets
users scan for any word or various combinations of words.

As well as offering the complete text of The Story of Civilization, the
title also includes more than 800 original illustrations, including
ancient photographs, drawings, maps and paintings by artists of the
period. Photographs and biographical information on the Durants is offered
to enhance the visual experience for the user.
