Geography Search returns!

Macintosh simulation takes students on a quest for unexplored lands

Watertown, MA, February 25, 1994 - The program that started it all is back!
Geography Search, the award-winning classroom software package that
launched educational technology publisher Tom Snyder Productions 12 years
ago, has been rebuilt with 90's technology and is better than ever.

When Tom Snyder first designed Geography Search for his classroom in 1979,
his goal was to create a dynamic educational environment where students
could teach and challenge each other as they honed skills in geography,
reading, math, critical thinking, and teamwork.

"I was rotating from group to group logging on as a naval consultant,
guiding students when necessary, and evaluating their progress. Soon my
students were sailing to the 'New World.' The shy kids were talking with
their more out-going shipmates, and the stronger students were mixing with
the weaker," says Tom Snyder.

This new and updated Macintosh version of Geography Search achieves Tom's
original goals and more. Here's how it works: Students become crew members
in an exciting race to reach the New World and find the City of Gold. Each
student has a specific duty and area of navigational expertise. Students
must work in cooperative crews, sharing their knowledge to help make group
navigational decisions. Without team collaboration, they will be unable to
reach lands beyond their known world.

Geography Search is a complete classroom kit with Macintosh software,
student navigation log books, worksheets, reproducibles, and a
comprehensive teacher's guide. Geography Search comes in three versions:

* The One Computer Classroom Kit successfully manages small cooperative
groups of students as they take turns on one computer and race to discover
a new world.

* The Real-Time Multi-Computer Pack allows the teacher, through file
sharing, to link several computers together, without a network. This
program will connect up to six computers so that student teams may race
through the same world simultaneously from different workstations.

* The Networked Version provides multiple "worlds" for multiple "fleets."

For over a decade, thousands of teachers and students have benefited from
the timeless pedagogy of Geography Search. The program has achieved an
enormous following from teachers since it was first released. In this new
version, Tom Snyder Productions uses the same design but intensifies the
drama and challenge of the great Age of Exploration through rich
illustrations and exciting sound effects.
