Informatica Corporation Introduces RightStart

Toolkit accelerates migration of legacy systems to client/server
architecture

LOS ANGELES -- Last September, Informatica Corporation announced the
availability of RightStart, a Microsoft Windows-based toolkit that
accelerates the migration of data in legacy systems to distributed
client/server environments.

RightStart addresses the growing trend within enterprises to rightsize
proprietary mainframe-based applications to an open client/server
architecture. Rightsizing allows the enterprise to improve business
processes and to take advantage of new software technologies and
lower-priced hardware. As a rightsizing enabler, RightStart automates
tasks usually performed manually, allowing IS departments to focus on
higher-level design and development issues. Automating the data and schema
migration process saves time, reduces costs and lowers the risk of error.

The announcement was made by Gaurav Dhillon, president and chief executive
officer of Informatica, who said, "Organizations are looking at
rightsizing in order to remain profitable in an increasingly competitive
business environment. However, the time and cost of migrating legacy data
on mainframes to client/server environments are often underestimated.
RightStart is an industrial-strength toolkit that offers developers an
immediate and significant reduction of the time and effort required on a
migration project."

Rick Lynds, senior programmer/analyst at the Metropolitan Water District in
Southern California, said, "The beauty of RightStart is its ease of use.
In a data migration project, the most difficult task is moving data
correctly from one system to another. Informatica has approached this
problem in a very unique, intuitive way. The graphical user interface
makes it easy to model and experiment with data. Moreover, this is the
most cost-effective tool I've seen on the market. It adds instant value."

RightStart

RightStart accelerates the migration of legacy COBOL applications to a
client/server environment. It consists of three components: COBOL
Analyzer, Database Designer and Data Loader. Each tool performs a distinct
task in the migration process. COBOL Analyzer captures information about
data definitions from the source code of an application. Database Designer
allows users to modify data definitions graphically, and automatically
creates relational database tables. Data Loader loads existing data by
mapping legacy data structures to the relational database tables.
RightStart analyzes ANSI 74, ANSI 85 and the Micro Focus and IBM mainframe
versions of COBOL. It works with RDBMSs from Oracle Corporation, Gupta
Corporation and Sybase, Inc., and other databases that support Microsoft's
Open Database Connectivity Interface (ODBC).

RightStart is available on Microsoft Windows 3.1.
