InterWorking Labs Announces SNMP Test Summit for June

Second SNMP Testing Event To Feature RMON Testing, SNMPv2 Compliance Tests,
and More As Part of Extended Network Management Test Suite

March 28, 1994 -- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- InterWorking Labs, The Protocol
Police of the Information Highway, today announced that the second SNMP
Test Summit will be held June 27 through July 1, 1994 at the Holiday Inn
Park Center Plaza in San Jose, California. A more extensive battery of
SNMP agent & manager network management compatibility tests will be
employed, including new tests for RMON and SNMPv2 compliance.

The SNMP Test Summit will provide a neutral environment where computer
hardware and software vendors can test for independent verification that
their Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) implementation
interoperate in accordance with the standard put forth by the Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF). In order to provide a more comprehensive
testing environment, the SNMP Test Suites utilized at the first Summit
last January will be expanded to include instrumentation tests, more
manager tests, added tests for SNMP RMON (Remote Monitor) implementations,
and more tests for SNMPv2. A complete test specification is scheduled to
become available on April 18, 1994. In addition to individual testing for
conformance with the various IETF specifications using InterWorking Labs'
Test Suites, there also will be interoperability testing between
participants' SNMP implementations.

"The [January] SNMP Test Summit allowed each vendor to test a shared level
of baseline SNMP functionality," said John Owen, System Test Engineer for
Network General Corp. "The summit has raised the awareness among SNMP
vendors, and pulled us out of a single company/single network application
testing, to move toward the goal of industry-wide test standards and
practices. We learned a lot, and look forward to the Summit in June '94."

"With the release or our extended SNMP Test Suite, we want to provide
vendors with a comprehensive test bed so they can police themselves as to
SNMP compliance," said Chris Wellens, President of InterWorking Labs. "And
certification using the InterWorking Labs SNMP Test Suite also will assure
SNMP customers that the implementations they buy are truly SNMP
compatible."

The second SNMP Test Summit also will feature key RMON and SNMP experts who
will provide technical oversight and give informal technical talks.
Participants will also have an opportunity to exchange information with
SNMP from various companies. Companies participating in the January SNMP
Test Summit are expected to return to re-test their SNMP product in June.
These vendors include Cabletron Systems Inc., cisco Systems Inc., EICON
Technology Corp., Empirical Tools and Technologies, Epilogue Technology
Corp., Fujitsu OSSI, IBM and IBM Research. Network General Corp., PEER
Networks, SNMP Research, SynOptics Communications, TGV Inc., and Wellfleet
Communications.

The cost to participate in the summit is $3,995. SNMP Test Summit
registrants will receive the extended Test Suites on quarter inch tape,
with documentation and 90 days of test support from InterWorking Labs. The
objective is to give vendors an opportunity to return to their companies
and continue testing, incorporating the SNMP Test Suites into their
individual quality assurance procedures.
