U.S. ROBOTICS INTRODUCES WORLDPORT DUAL STANDARD
New Architecture and Design for WorldPort Line

SKOKIE, Ill., -- March 8, 1994 -- U.S. Robotics today announced the
addition of the WorldPort Dual Standard Fax modem to its WorldPort line of
portable modems. The WorldPort Dual Standard Fax provides mobile computing
professionals with a complete, highly-compatible, high-speed fax and data
communications solution in a light-weight, compact form. The product will
ship in March.

"With the addition of the WorldPort Dual Standard Fax to the WorldPort
line, we're able to give users all the features and protocols found in a
state-of-the-art desktop modem," said Michael Seedman, U.S. Robotics vice
president and general manager, personal communications group. "Not only
does the Dual Standard Fax give users high speed data and fax throughput,
it also includes our widely accepted HST protocol for 16.8 Kbps data
transmission, and high-end features like Adaptive Speed Leveling and Quick
Connect. With the Dual Standard Fax, users can communicate as easily on
the road as they can in the office."

More than one million pocket modems are expected to ship in 1996, up from
425,000 units in 1993. Revenues for pocket modems are expected to achieve
$238 million in 1996, up more than $ 100 million from 1993, according to
International Data Corporation.

New Architecture and Design

The new WorldPort Dual Standard Fax and the WorldPort 14,400 Fax have a
redesigned architecture based on U.S. Robotics' proprietary DSP-based data
pump technology found in Courier, Sportster, Shared Access and Total
Control products.

On the outside, the portable WorldPorts have a brand-new look: a smaller,
sleeker gunmetal gray case with the same high-caliber performance and
compatibility of all U.S. Robotics products. These complete-solution
WorldPorts also come with an attached 9-pin cable, eliminating the need to
carry an additional 25-to-9-pin hydra cable.

The new architecture WorldPort 14,400 Fax and the WorldPort Dual Standard
Fax maintain all the popular features found in the previous models, such
as LEDs and 9-volt battery operation. Additionally, the 14,400 Fax modem
includes ITU-T V.32bis/14,400 bps data capability, ITU-T V.17/14,400 bps
Group III, Class 1 fax, V.42/MNP 2-4 error control and V.42bis/MNP 5 data
compression.

The Dual Standard Fax modem includes all the features of the 14,400 Fax,
plus Class 2.0 fax and U.S. Robotics' widely accepted HST protocol for
16,800 bps data transmission. High-end features, such as Quick Connect and
Adaptive Speed Leveling (ASL), which reduce training time and optimize
on-line transmissions, and Dial-Back and Link Security are included in the
Dual Standard Fax.

U. S. Robotics' WorldPort portable modems give users all the advanced
features of a full-size desktop modem in a convenient? Light weight
package. The WorldPort line includes:
