Accton Demonstrates New PCI Network Adapter at NetWorld + Interop

New PCI Ethernet Adapter Delivers Five Times the Speed of EISA Adapters and
It Includes With NetWare Universal Client

May 2, 1994 -- LAS VEGAS, Nevada - At NetWorld + Interop '94 this week,
Accton Technology Corporation will be demonstrating its new line of PCI
adapters in Booth 3233. By applying PCI technology to network adapters,
Accton has developed a new high-performance network adapter circuit design
that delivers up to five times the performance of conventional EISA
adapters, making it ideal for use in network servers and high-performance
or high-end workstations. And the support software for the EtherDuo PCI
adapter delivers plug-and-play compatibility with NetWare networks.

The EtherDuo PCI Ethernet adapter is based on the Peripheral Components
Interconnect (PCI) local bus architecture, which matches the bus speed of
the host microprocessor. As a result, data packets can be handled at rates
of 50 to 100 MHz, depending on the microprocessor. And since the chip
architecture is processor-independent, the adapter is ideal for use with
486, Pentium Alpha, and RISC-based computers.

The EtherDuo PCI has a full 32-bit data path with bus mastering and
supports full-duplex Ethernet operations with data transfer rates of 20
megabits per second in switched Ethernet applications. It also uses a
direct memory access (DMA) Ethernet chip architecture with a deep FIFO
memory to minimize CPU utilization which results in optimized system
performance.

"These new PCI adapters are ideal for use in NetWare file servers," noted
Swan Chen, General Manager for Accton Technology. "Since the PCI adapters
come with the NetWare Universal Client software, they can be quickly
installed in a NetWare environment. And the PCI adapters high-speed
performance also make it a the right choice for high-end workstation
applications where data throughput is a critical factor."

The EtherDuo PCI is ready for NetWare with support from Novell's recently
announced Universal NetWare Client. Using Virtual Loadable Modules (VLMs)
in place of the previous NETX shell, the Universal NetWare Client can
support NetWare 2, 3, 4, and Personal NetWare. The Universal NetWare
Client includes a full suite of connectivity support services accessible
via Microsoft Windows, offering direct access to NetWare file and print
services from Windows File Manager, Print Manager, and Control Panel. The
Universal NetWare Client also features Optimized Memory Management with
memory swapping, enhanced data transport services using packet burst and
Large Internet Packet (LIP) support, and a Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP) client.

The EtherDuo PCI has self-configuring 10BASE-T (RJ-45) and 10BASE-2 (BNC)
ports. In addition to the Universal NetWare Client, the adapters Includes
NDIS drivers to support Microsoft Lan Manager, IBM LAN Server, Digital
PATHWORKS, Banyan VINES, and Wollongong's Pathway Access; and Packet
Drivers to support FTP, TCP/IP, and NCSA Telnet.

The EtherDuo PCI carries a retail price of $249. Novell s Universal NetWare
Client and additional driver software is included at no additional charge.
(Novell is offering the Universal NetWare Client as a stand-alone software
package for $99 retail.)

Accton Technology Corporation manufactures workgroup connectivity hardware
