Banyan Chooses Folio Infobase Software for Its New CD-ROM-Based Technical
Documentation

Folio-based Delivery System Gives VINES Users the Power to Adapt
Documentation to the Specific Needs of Their Organization

PROVO, Utah, April 18, 1994 -- Folio Corporation today announced that
Banyan Systems, Inc. has selected Folio Infobase software to deliver its
new Enterprise Network Services Information Query (ENS IQ) CD-ROM-based
on-line documentation. ENS IQ, included with the new VINES network
operating system Version 5.54, contains the equivalent of 3,000 printed
pages. Using Folio Infobase software, this information can be accessed
instantly, and can be adapted in a variety of ways to meet the specific
needs of user organizations.

In addition to searching and printing, the Folio software included in ENS
IQ allows up to 125 users to simultaneously annotate the documentation
with marginal "sticky" notes, bookmarks, hypertext and hypermedia links,
searchable "highlighter pens," and logical groups. This annotation makes
the information easier to understand and share. To preserve the integrity
of the ENS IQ documentation, users can store all annotations in personal
or group-specific "shadow files," which overlay the original and let users
view all of their additions without physically changing the master file.

With the addition of the full-featured Folio VIEWS, available from Folio
Corporation, ENS IQ users also have the option to edit or recompile
Banyan's documentation to create highly specialized documentation
Infobases that make it easier for system support personnel to maintain
their particular VINES installation.

"Our new on-line documentation is well suited to the enterprise," said
Michelle Freeman, director of information products for Banyan. "With Folio
Infobases we can now give network administrators not only fast access, but
also the important ability to annotate, customize and print online
information.

"Banyan customers may also choose to purchase additional Folio VIEWS
software to produce internal information products which can be used in
conjunction with Banyan's products. For example, Banyan customers who
adopt Folio VIEWS for their Help Desk, can set up links from a Help Desk
infobase to the ENS IQ documentation infobase."

"Banyan customers who adopt Folio VIEWS as an enterprise-wide standard will
enjoy an additional benefit," said Freeman. "By providing access to
information through one product, they will make access much easier."

According to Curt Allen, Folio's executive vice president, "By licensing
Folio Infobase software, Banyan joins the growing ranks of companies that
recognize the importance of providing tools for adapting the information
they publish. Giving quick access to information is only part of the
solution needed by users today," he said, "and it is only part of the
means a software vendor has to differentiate itself from its competition.
Banyan is a forward-thinking company which recognizes how using Folio
Infobase software can allow it to offer better service to its customers
and also gain a significant competitive advantage."

With Folio software people can find what they need when they need it,
information can be updated in real-time without interruption and many
people can edit or annotate information simultaneously. In addition,
information can be linked, grouped and viewed in a variety of ways to make
it easier to synthesize and analyze.
