Candela Ltd. Announces New Technology To Enhance Kodak PhotoCD Images

Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 4, 1994 - A technology application that
enhances Kodak PhotoCD images will be released in the second quarter of
1994 by Candela, Ltd. Called Candela GamutCD, a demonstration version is
available to potential licensees now.

Potential customers are software publishers with color imaging products.
Price is negotiable and an exclusive license is possible.

Candela GamutCD merges Kodak PhotoCD technology with the precision of
Candela color transforms to improve any Kodak-scanned PhotoCD image. Kodak
PhotoCD images contain more information than is being used by conventional
conversion methods. Consequently, the images transformed into RGB colors
for display on color monitors or used in imaging applications typically
have reduced saturation, low shadow detail, overblown highlights or a
color cast.

The new technology takes advantage of functions extracted from Candela's
Color Management System. GamutCD requires no calibration information of
the PhotoCD scans, so it will work with PhotoCD images from any source.

Benefits include increased productivity through batch operations, reduced
job times because less image editing is required, lower training costs
resulting from simplified controls, and confidence that the best color is
being extracted by Candela ColorCircuits.

Candela Ltd. provides high-precision, digital color solutions to customers
in the color and photographic software, desktop publishing and printing
industries. Its products are licensed by companies including Corel
Corporation, CCI Europe, LaserMaster, Lucht Engineering, Purup Prepress,
ScanView, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and others.
