After Effects Power Macintosh Version, Rendering Engine, & New Keying
Effects Now Available

Macintosh/Power Macintosh Versions Included in all After Effects' Products

(Seattle, Washington, May 16, 1994) -- CoSA, A Division of Aldus
Corporation, announced today the release of three new products which
enhance its professional compositing, motion graphics and special effects
package, After Effects. The new products include: After Effects for the
Apple Power Macintosh platform; the After Effects Rendering Engine; and
Effects Pack, vol. 2: Keying Effects. Additionally, the entire After
Effects product-line now ships with both Macintosh and Power Macintosh
versions. "In post production, efficiency is the bottom-line," said Bill
O'Farrell, CoSA Division Manager. He added, "The CoSA division is
dedicated to offering tools that give post professionals the means to
quickly complete assignments calling for complex, high quality effects on
time and under budget. We feel that these new products and our early
support for the Power Macintosh platform continue to make After Effects
the tool of choice for digital post production."

Effects Pack, vol. 2: Keying Effects

The latest package of plug-in special effects adds professional quality
bluescreen removal and color keying capabilities to the After Effects
arsenal. These keying effects contain eleven effects that are essential
components for detailed compositing projects. The effects provide a range
of difference matte, color difference and linear keys that let the user
choose the tool best suited to the task at hand. A goal-oriented interface
helps the user through each step of the keying process.

Users will find essential keying functions such as: multiple key colors,
matte level adjustment, matte choke or spread, and spill suppression.
These tools provide the control necessary to create mattes with fine
detail from difficult subject matter such as hair, transparency and smoke.
Like everything else in After Effects, all control settings can be changed
over time. Suggested retail price: $695 (US), with an introductory price
of $495 (US) through June 30, 1994.

"The Keying Effects are the greatest advance in the field in the last
twelve years," stated Mitch Suskin, Visual Effects Supervisor for the
futuristic TV series Babylon 5. "After Effects has made a tremendous
difference in the show."

After Effects, Apple Power Macintosh Version

After Effects 2.0.1 is now available for Power Macintosh computers. In
addition to minor bug-fixes, post professionals can expect a 2-4 times
increase in speed over the After Effects 2.0 (Macintosh-only) version
released in January '94.

In conjunction with Apple's aggressive pricing of their newest and most
powerful line of computers, After Effects for the Power Macintosh provides
the best price/performance solution available to video and film
professionals doing heavy-duty digital post production from their desktop.
Suggested retail price for After Effects 2.0.1 for the Power Macintosh:
$1,995 (US). Registered users who purchased After Effects 2.0 prior to
March 15, 1994 can purchase the 2.0.1 upgrade for $99 (US). For those who
purchased After Effects 2.0 on or after March 15, the upgrade cost is a
$25 (US) shipping/handling fee.

After Effects, 2.0.1 Bug-fix

Macintosh-only users who can't yet take advantage of the dramatic speed of
the Power Macintosh version, and who just want the bug-fix, can download a
patching application for free from the CoSA division areas on America
Online and AppleLink. The application will convert After Effects 2.0 into
the 2.0.1 Macintosh-only version.

After Effects Rendering Engine

The After Effects Rendering Engine is a cost-effective way for the After
Effects 2.x user to put idle Macintosh and Power Macintosh CPUs to good
use. Once a composition has been completed and is ready to be rendered,
final output frames can then be put on a different machine or machines
running the rendering engine. This frees up the primary After Effects
workstation for continued editing, and ensures that neither machine nor
operator has to sit idle. The rendering engine also comes in multipack
units. Suggested Retail Price: $495 for 1; $995 for 3; $1,995 for 10.
Additional pricing is available for any quantity.

Richard Patterson of Illusion Arts says, "The [After Effects] Rendering
Engine has made it feasible for us to cost-effectively create
multi-layered, high-resolution composites for motion pictures, all on the
Macintosh. I don't quite know what to say about it -- except that it
works!"

System Requirements

After Effects 2.0.1 and the After Effects Rendering Engine 2.0.1 for the
Macintosh require an Apple Macintosh II computer or greater with a
floating point unit math-coprocessor (FPU), System 7.0 software or later,
the QuickTime 1.5 system extension or later (included) and at least 8Mb of
RAM (20+Mb recommended). After Effects 2.0.1 and the After Effects
Rendering Engine 2.0.1 for the Power Macintosh require System 7.1.2 or
later, QuickTime 1.6.2 or later, and at least 16Mb of RAM (24+
recommended). Both also require an 80Mb hard drive (500 Mb+ recommended).
Two monitors are recommended with using After Effects.

Effects Pack vol. 2: Keying Effects is a package of plug-in special effects
that augments After Effects version 2.0- or higher, which is therefore
required. The After Effects Rendering Engine is a stand-alone application
that renders projects that have been created in After Effects 2.0 or
higher. After Effects and the After Effects Rendering Engine are
copy-protected by an Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) hardware key device.
