Sybase, Disk Emulation Systems, Inc. (DES) Form Strategic Relationship.

Disk Emulation Systems, Inc., Targets Client/Server Data Intensive,
Relational Database Applications for Ultra-High Performance Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (May 24, 1994 at DB EXPO, Booth 901) -- Disk Emulation
Systems, Inc. (DES), the largest manufacturer of ultra-high performance
solid-state disk emulators for the client/server market, today announced
its agreement with Sybase, Inc. to become a key partner in Sybase's Open
Solutions independent software vendor program.

The program is designed to facilitate the development and marketing of
products and services that enhance the value of SYBASE SQL Server and
SYBASE OpenServer client/server computing products.

An up-scale San Francisco Bay Area furniture retailer recently completed a
three-year project implementing a SYBASE and DES client/server-based
system to replace the company's IBM mainframe. After installing the DES
drive, the retailer was able to support 200 simultaneous sessions (up from
35 before the DES unit) and create and reserve more than 2,000 tags in a
20 minute period (the goal was 400).

"Solid-state disk emulators unleash the power of relational database
technology, allowing these systems to achieve exceptional performance
gains," said Steve Fioretti, director, channels marketing at Sybase.

DES recently unveiled a new series of solid-state disk emulators (SSDE)
with "fast and wide" SCSI-2 interfaces. SSDEs manufactured by DES
incorporate patented high-speed circuit design technology developed for
handling the coding and decoding of SCSI commands.

Businesses, including data retrieval services, securities trading, and
health maintenance organizations, are relying more and more on SYBASE's
relational database technology to respond faster to system demands,
especially because of the performance limitations associated with
conventional storage disk technology.

Sybase, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYBS) is the fastest growing supplier of
client/server-based software products and services for on-line,
enterprise-wide applications. Sybase's integrated family of software
includes database servers, tools, connectivity, and system management
products, providing complete desktop to mainframe solutions. Headquartered
in Emeryville, CA, Sybase reported sales of $427 million, an increase of
61% over 1992. Sybase markets its products worldwide through its direct
sales force, telesales, distributors, OEMs, VARs, and System Integrators.

Established in 1986, Disk Emulation Systems, Inc. specializes in designing
and manufacturing ultra-high performance solid-state disk emulators. Since
it began shipping product, the company's sales have increased more than
500 percent annually. DES' products include SCSI-based solid-state disk
emulator models 800D, 800R or 800T and 1000 with capacities expandable
from 32 megabytes to more than 4 gigabytes. Disk Emulation Systems, Inc.
is located at 3080 Oakmead Village Dr., Santa Clara, CA. 95051. Phone:
