Extended Systems Supports New HP LaserJet 4 Plus Printer

Today, Extended Systems announced its newest ExtendNet card for HP LaserJet
printers, including the new HP LaserJet 4 Plus printer. ExtendNet
ESI-2861A allows HP LaserJet printers to be attached anywhere on a Novell
NetWare Ethernet network. It provides high-performance printing -- 10-30
times faster than traditional PC-based print servers. Better still, this
product actually costs less than configuring existing 286 or 386 PCs as
print servers. The benefits to users and network managers add up to better
NetWare print performance, at lower cost, with fewer dedicated PCs to
administer.

High-Performance NetWare Print Server for HP LaserJets

ExtendNet ESI-2861A provides the lowest-cost, high-performance Ethernet
connections for the HP LaserJet 4 Plus, 4 and IIISi printer families. The
Flash memory on the ESI-2861A ensures updates can be downloaded in the
event future NetWare releases require modification. The new card is
compatible with all HP LaserJet printers with Modular I/O (MIO) slots and
is designed to meet the throughput needs of high-speed printers like the
HP LaserJet 4Si and 4 Plus printers.

Minimizes Cost of Networking HP LaserJets

"We believe a critical issue for many NetWare administrators today is the
cost of adding peripherals to the network," said Clay Young, Network
Printing Marketing Manager. While Ethernet PC interface card prices have
dropped below $100 in many instances, hardware print server NICs have
remained in the $399-$599 range. These more expensive print servers have
added multiple-protocol and mixed-environment support, but prices and
complexity have remained high. "Extended Systems has identified the need
for lower-priced NetWare-optimized servers on sites strategically
committed to Novell. To meet this need, Extended Systems has introduced a
complete line of value-priced print servers for the Novell community. This
new product represents by far the best buy in full-function print
servers," said Young.

Extended Systems has been providing connectivity products for peripherals
and PCs since 1984. Based in Boise, Idaho, the company manufactures,
