Get Wired!

New Multimedia Software Program Shows Anyone How To Hook Up to the
Information Superhighway and More

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 9, 1994--Books That Work today released Get Wired,
an innovative how-to multimedia software program that teaches homeowners
the ins and outs (and ons and offs) of home wiring. It covers everything
from wiring a home for the information superhighway, to designing the
power flow for a kitchen, to hooking up a new sound system in the den. The
Windows-based program delivers information in an exciting multimedia
format that covers the most common, important wiring jobs. It provides
comprehensive information and tips on safety, tools, and materials. It
also includes the Circuit Simulator, an exciting new tool that
automatically configures any new wiring job.

"To most people, electricity, power and the information superhighway are
mysteries," said Stuart Gannes, CEO of Books That Work. "In fact, these
things are very easy to figure out." In Get Wired, the concepts behind
every aspect of home wiring are presented in an easy-to-understand format.
Best of all, by doing these household wiring projects themselves,
homeowners are liberated from the clutches of high priced electricians or
phone installers who charge 75 dollars or more an hour.

As the second product in the Home Survival Toolkit family of products, Get
Wired contains information and instructions crucial to every homeowner,
such as how to rewire the rooms of a house or design an ideal lighting
plan. It calculates an individual's specific electrical needs, such as
wire gauge and box size. To ensure safety, the Circuit Simulator allows
people to practice any wiring job on-screen first. Without touching a
cable, Get Wired allows homeowners to create a complete electrical design
on screen, including customized switches, lights and outlets. The design
can then be brought to life, showing the power flow and any potential
problem areas.

Get Wired's informative animations provide step-by-step illustrations of
expert techniques. Unfamiliar terms are defined at the click of a mouse,
common dangers/mistakes are highlighted and professional advice is given
for many situations. All instructions follow the National Electric Code,
used as the basic requirements for electrical work throughout the
country.

Virtual Hardware Store

Get Wired's virtual Hardware Store lets homeowners examine more than 100
photographic images of tools and materials, and explains how each tool is
used. Users learn each product's strengths and weaknesses and what to look
for when shopping. It also teaches trademark names, to help consumers
better identify the products they need.

"Get Wired covers everything the average homeowner needs to know about
power and lighting before actually touching a wire," said Marc Goldstein,
Get Wired Product Manager. "Our multimedia technology doesn't just inform
you how to do a job right, it shows you and lets you actually redesign the
flow of power and information entering you home. It goes far beyond what a
book could do because it lets you change circuits and interact with power
lines to figure out what works best for you."

Get Wired comes on 3 1/2" diskettes and requires an IBM PC or 100%
compatible, 386 or higher, 2MB RAM minimum; VGA or Super VGA monitor, and
Windows 3.1. It does not require CD-ROM. It is available for $19.95.
