IDG BOOKS WORLDWIDE SWEEPS AWARDS IN THREE OF FIVE BOOK CATEGORIES AT
COMPUTER PRESS ASSOCIATION AWARDS

San Mateo, CA--May 13, 1994--Confirming its transition from a start-up to
an upstart to an industry leader, IDG Books Worldwide swept the Computer
Press Association Awards last month, winning three out of four computer
book categories. In all, IDG Books received four awards at the prestigious
Ninth Annual CPA Awards held on April 15 in New York City. Winners
included DOS For Dummies, 2nd Edition by Dan Gookin and Network Security
SECRETS by David Stang and Sylvia Moon and finalists included The Internet
For Dummies by John Levine and Carol Baroudi and Hard Disk SECRETS by John
Goodman.

"We are very excited about the results of this year's awards and we
congratulate each of our authors and editors. It is very gratifying to be
recognized two years in a row by our industry peers and to have our
authors honored for their outstanding coverage of information technology.
It also underscores IDG Books commitment to quality," commented John
Kilcullen, President and CEO of IDG Books Worldwide.

The Computer Press Awards are sponsored by the Computer Press Association
and Citizen American Corporation and is the oldest and most distinguished
competition of its kind. Both computer trade and general business entries
were evaluated across 22 categories by 64 judges. This panel of
distinguished journalists base their decisions on creativity,
presentation, clarity, accuracy, and significance to the audiences, among
other criteria. Categories included news and feature articles, columnists,
magazines, newspapers, books, and television programs.

As one of the youngest and fastest growing computer book publishers to have
had books nominated, IDG Books had the highest number of nominations. The
winners and finalists from IDG Books were:

Winner: DOS For Dummies, 2nd Edition, by Dan Gookin
